Splash back for a white gloss kitchen with black benchtop

If you go with tiles then invest the extra money in epoxy grout that will make cleaning a great deal easier - regardless of what colour/style you go for. Dark grout with white tiles is quite modern and makes cleaning grout a little easier - personally, I don't favour it but that's just personal taste. I would check the ease of cleaning on any matt tile. To bring in warmth to your kitchen (as black and white can be a bit stark sometimes) look at bringing some colour in - even metallics in silver, bronze or copper or even opalescent tiles can be gorgeous and can also help bounce light in a subtle way back into your room while giving you a luxury look with depth and interest. Go to your tile supplier and ask for samples so that you can take them home and put them in the space and get a sense of how they'll work - sometimes the way they look away from the tile shop is completely different to how they look in the shop. It collects grime ( known in the trade as 'grotty grout' ) & is hard to maintain. Go for glass, the possibilities are endless, from sophisticated plain to funky patterned. Easy care & long lasting. Personalise your space, it looks really fab, love all your drawers, so practical ! Would love to see the end result. Please post pics....See MorePOLL: What's your favourite kitchen splashback?
Comments (46)We had a guy who printed posters print the photo and stick it on the glass for us (to make sure there were no air bubbles). He delivered it to the glazier who was installing the splashback. There was so much interest as it sat in the showroom, the glazier then started offering glass with pictures actually printed onto them... If your wall was smooth, you could put the 'poster' print onto ther wall as another option....See Morekitchen splashback. What is trendy?

Something bold and eyecatching can have great impact to start with but in or out of fashion, it gets to the point you get sick of looking at it so make sure you will be happy to look at it in 10 years time. There are many large tiles on the market now, my new tiles are 600 x 350 mm so I only needed 9 tiles to complete my kitchen, reducing the grout to virtually nil. Personally I prefer a glass tile or a tile with an irridesent finish that brings a touch of bling to your room, I think it gives an otherwise plain and simple kitchen a cheerful lift. If you want to go for a strong turquoise colour a matte finish tile adds strength to the colour so it quite dominates the room, where a high gloss finish gives you the colour without that "in your face" impact. Try to get some samples to check them out in your room, light can change tiles significantly. I would actually worry the black sink would date faster than anything else. These are quite new and I would worry how they wear too - I haven't checked them out at all. Dr. Retro - is that a real kitchen?? I just think of walking into that first thing each morning, pre caffeine ................ aaagghhh!!!...See More- 8 years ago
