Hello houzzers!
Would like some suggestions for our newly renovated kitchen.
Cupboards are an off white. Would like to have a pop of colour - was thinking of blue?

There is a new product that is apparently half the price of glass but looks similar. I'm getting this put in our new Landry. Reflections reef metallic

I think a navy splashback would really suit the off white cupboards!

You can always go with textured glass or slump glass,it has a more rustic look and doesn't look so modern as plain glass, it's much easier to keep clean too as it doesn't streak and there is no grout...we have a very traditional kitchen and it looks amazing,this is my laundry and is actually quite a vibrant purple with dragonflies on it because,in the laundry,why not? The kitchen is more nuetral......

I have looked and liked the stone print, but have been told that prints will quickly date and when costing, it doubles the cost of the splashbacks (which would blow the cost out to over 7k just for the splashbacks). Hence I am stuck for ideas.

Hi Jo -this is open plan the house originally had fake brick archways as you entered and lounge dining with a separate kitchen as shown in the picture. We closed in one arch that was on the right as you entered and opened the wall to the kitchen. We added 3m to the back and swapped the lounge/dining orientation to meals as you enter and family opposite kitchen before 5 bifold doors and the bifold window that is the kitchen. Not in the pic is a butlers pantry. I'm not sure if you can follow this. In the family room we have a gas fire, we're having carpet laid, once it's organised I'll post some more pics if you're interested. i like houses where I'm not buying what someone else has done - the entire house has been renovated in and out but not yet finished. Dawn the window is aluminium.

Nope - with all of those different whites they will react and one of them will look creamy or dirty. Suggest you go with a soft grey to pick out the grey in the benchtop. Matching whites and getting it right is really hard to do successfully when the whites are different materials from different manufacturers. Start looking at some of the greys in Johnson's Spectrum range in the 197 x 97 size, get samples and see how they work with your benchtop and cabinetwork in your kitchen. Have just has some sensational glass art done by Glass Xpressions, Molindar, Qld (they ship interstate). Friends had Glass Xpressions create their own unique colourful, classy splashbacks - one in their kitchen just where your splashback is, and one in a little open side workbench - just amazing work. Never seen anything like it, everyone who sees it just loves it. Have a look on their website there are a couple of samples in amongst their other work. Regards Ann

I am a scaredy cat when it comes to colour because colours come in and out of fashion. I like to add pops of colour with my accessories. There are so many choices for splashbacks these days and it depends on the look you are trying to achieve. I like the way people are using subway tiles in a herringbone pattern to add some interest and texture to otherwise very clinical kitchens. Beaumont tiles have an excellent photo gallery showing different tiling ideas and The Block online also shows a variety of kitchen splashback ideas.

I agree that Beaumont Tiles have a very extensive range, and seem reasonably priced. I have purchased some mosaic green onyx tiles in a random pinwheel arrangement from Beaumont and they are gorgeous, reflective, natural looking. But there are so many more styles, and perhaps don't be afraid to go 'out of the box' and use nice floor tiles or anything that grabs your fancy. Coloured glass splashbacks are having photos printed on the backs before they're put in place these days. A nice beach or forest scene looks amazing. I'm sorry to say that I'm really over the subway tile thing, sadly we recently moved into a house smothered in cream subway tile and I feel I can't get away from it, lol.

Blue is the now to have colour but how long will it stay the to have colour. Try a specialty tile shop as tiles have become a whole lot more interesting in the last 12 months. It looks like you have a smallish area to tile so you can spend a bit more than what you would normally spend on tiles.

Hi be careful going bold with sharp colors as they are in today and out tomorrow and you will be stuck with the splash back unless you have the funds to change it when it gets dated. I think grey would go great as you already have the stainless appliances, have you thought of a mirror splash back there are a selection of tints and it will reflect and open the area up more. You could then use colours/blue in your accessories and these can be changed easily. I am sure your choice will look amazing.

I went for a stunning lime green splash back which I love. But if you are going blue, why not make it pop, like this one attached?

how about a patterned tile with a splash of color.....maybe something like a 'morrocan style' blue color?

Use the same material and colour as you have on the benches. Anything else will make the area look too busy and much smaller. The splashback should just melt into the background. Be classic and don't follow the current trends, and that way it will last forever and you will never tire of it.

Very interested in this post.
I am looking at replacing our kitchen bench,but it has to match our existing off white cabinets.What colour and still is the benchtop?
Would love to also see what splashback you went with.

Putting the final touches on our new kitchen and I find your post. I had the same dilemma about a week ago. What to do with off white cupboards? Bold or classic? Glass or tiles? Matt or gloss? In the end this is what I went with. Different but neutral. And it gave it a lift which I was happy with. In our old house we had a black glass splash back and the glass was the worst thing possible to clean! First clean and then buff and u could see every smear. It was exhausting but I hear lighter colours are easier to maintain. Whatever you choose go with your gut instinct. It's your house and only you have to really like it. Tiles were from national tiles about $110m2. Can't wait to see what you choose.

These are more neutral but represent a cool, classical look. The very best thing about glass splash backs is - no grout! Just wipe off, they are a snap to clean and they are always shiny looking :D

We had the same dilemma should we go glass or subway tiles. We went with handmade Italian subways and love the look. Keep scrolling through photos and go with your gut instinct. Many of my friends said go glass I now know I would have hated it but I concede it is the perfect choice for many renovated and new kitchens. Good luck and enjoy your kitchen.

Hi home, that looks like a really lovely, classy kitchen. Very elegant. I am intrigued by your window - is that a lead light/ stained glass picture? I would love to see another picture of the window ( if Susannah doesn't mind me digressing the thread slightly).
Susannah, I am still deciding what to do with my own kitchen renovation. I am thinking glass, because I currently have black glossy tiles with dark grout, and I find it hard to keep clean. I have seen some smoky mirror glass splashbacks which look lovely, and I am thinking that will be what I end up with. I think a soft grey would look nice with your cabinets and appliances, and can be livened up with splashes of colour in accessories.

Hi telperien, the glass pane is a lead light window I made over 20 years ago and it moves house when ever we do.

How beautiful, and very special indeed. I can understand that it would go wherever you go. Thank you so much for showing it, it is a treasure.
I have a similar type of window in my stairwell, which was here when we moved in, and I was surprised the previous owners left it behind. I will try to add a picture, separately.

Your stairwell light is really lovely. There's something quite special and ethereal about light coming through coloured glass thanks for the pic.
