Need help renovating bathroom
Comments (8)Great room. The paintwork, bulkhead and black aluminum window look contemporary, so updating the colour scheme will completely renew this bathroom. I would remove the tiles on the wall of the vanity, including the bath area, and actually have a glazier I stall a mirror from the bench top right across the room, thus negating the need for tiling at all, and just lengthening the space and light. Then all you need to worry about are the bath surround tiles. Luckily there are loads of options, from DIY to designer and many in between. I saw a tile product on houzz called xlight that can be applied right over existing tiles, as long as they are level and secure. There is a stunning architectural range including concrete looking tiles and even a marble. Carrara is the most expensive fit out choice but number one of designers, xlite have a tile which would tile tour bath front in one piece as would your side and rear wall, in around two sheets! Contact them, then all you need to do is replace a vanity, or I would have a joiner come out to quote on hand laminating the top onsite. Or consider just replacing or building a base draw vanity beneath this while retaining the bench top, you could tile this also in the marble look for ultimate luxury, and go with a timber veneer looking product for the suspended drawers below. Floor tiling is the only thing to do then....See MoreFirst time renovator – need help with my design!
Comments (50)Hi Mel, Kitchens are an integral part of any home and particularly a busy family, so much to consider. I personally think an Island clear of any sinks or utilities makes for a more workable space. It lends itself to food prep, kids homework, meals, guests perched on a bench whilst you prep. Sinks always accumulate mess so I think a sink put to the side works better. Gone are the days where you will stand at a sink hours at a time. Think about how you like to cook and use a kitchen a cooktop not far from the sink works best think straining pasta pots, vegies etc.. As for butler's pantry's I'm not a fan, why spend money on a lovely kitchen only to be cooped up in a small kitchen off to the side, very unsociable. Houses are made to be lived in and sometimes that comes with a little mess particularly in the kitchen. Don't hide away in a butlers pantry embrace your home and kitchen and all that it entails. I recently completed a kitchen with a similar colour scheme to what you are suggesting black, white and timber, I anchored the kitchen with the black Island and used white cabinets for the rest of the kitchen. Matt surfaces are on trend at the moment as opposed to gloss or semi gloss, matt finishes hide finger prints and children's hand marks better, dust will show up on darker surfaces so be mindful of this. I adore natural materials and feel that a timber floor really adds warmth. Take a look at the kitchen I recently designed for my clients, would love to hear your thoughts. Happy to assist you any way - Good luck with your renos. Thanks Collaborative Interiors...See MoreNeed help with Bathroom renovation
Comments (5)!) Set out your bathroom including shower, the sill of your window relative to shower, if shower under window.....However, exterior of widow needs to be considered. Brick suggests a new lintel above the window Have new window in before doing any more work Plumbing and electrical rough ins before RENDERING 3) Rendering by a good renderer will ensure the quickest method to " plumb " walls ..one day about $ 1,000....Organise your tiler BEFORE Rendering, some tilers render, or my " brother-in-law renders " ( A great option ) A tiler can only tile as good as the walls permit ! 4) Rendering....Waterproofing...Tiling ...Fit Out....Shower screen ( never be talked into buying a shower screen from a fixture business...ONLY have shower screen measured AFTER tiling is completed...See MoreNeed help with renovating our front facade
Comments (27)I guess it depends on your budget , but I'd start with the obvious -- the paint . It looks 'dirty' , so I'd pressure wash . But it does look better in the for sale picture , and I suspect it has been photoshopped . Anyway , if your budget extends , maybe paint that couple of shades lighter . Again , budget matters , but I like cedar or similar timber garage doors , so that would be an option . The door , to me , is the least of your problems . Then I would go darker on the trim . The gutters I'd go the same shade as the roof , and carry that through to the vents , and hopefully the windows . Then the trim that can be seen under the gutters , I'd go halfway between the gutter colour and the wall colour . That would soften things . For a Wow , and before anyone says its a different style , I know , BUT I'd do the 2 fake columns in a small horizontal slate -- that would add a touch of class and variety IMO . But we are all different !...See More- 10 years ago
