Window splash backs, yes or no?
Comments (6)I think that they can be very good to let in natural light and give off a view, so if you have something nice to look at like greenery; then absolutely. If you'd be looking concrete or a busy street, then no. If you need something nice and bright you could put a patterned wallpaper or mural behind glass, maybe even with LED strip lighting....See MoreI’m stuck with this ugly facade??
Comments (11)If you don’t like the fence then remove it. It doesn’t really fit in with the era of the house. Returning a window to that blank wall would improve the look of the house. It currently looks odd and unfriendly. Windows improve your street presence. Choose windows in keeping with the rest of the house. Also think about orientation. If the front is facing west you’ll get harsh western light in summer heating up that room unless you have vertical shading. It might be why they bricked it up in the first place. Which brings me to the awning to the right of the house. It is what makes that window look odd. It would greatly improve the look of the house if it was removed, but if your house faces west you might regret it. Really think hard before rendering. Bricks are virtually maintenance free. Render will require ongoing maintenance. And there is the potential to look like you’re trying to turn the house into something it’s not rather than embracing it. As trends go, brick is back and render is on the way out. Not that you should always follow trends. Your money might be better spent on landscaping and other things that will improve the amenity. Congratulations on the new house. It’s very exciting....See MoreUgly window arrangement - what would you do?
Comments (4)My house has these and they are great for breezes. I certainly wouldn't remove them. In one room I have double roller blinds, sheer with blockout. In the other room I have single block out roller blinds - over the top I have a floor length sheer curtain on the bigger window, then both windows have matching shorter valances. Hope this helps. BTW where I live in a sub tropical climate these windows are very popular....See Morehow to disguise ugly window onto patio
Comments (13)I think putting a big screen in front of it will just draw attention to what you are hiding. Instead of trying to hide it, draw attention away from it so it just sort of fades from your view, hiding it in plain sight so to speak. So some hanging baskets hanging from the beams and some larger potted plants on the floor in front, they will draw the focus and you won't notice the window....See MoreVy
