To Paint or Not To Paint, That is the Question!

We moved into this house about 4 years ago. It was built in 1980, so was decorated in quite a '70's' style. However, it's structure was perfect for us and we are slowly updating it cosmetically.

Recently we got a whole new kitchen and also got Timber floorings throughout - NSW Spotted Gum in Cover Grade with a Matt water-based finish. (Yes, we deliberately chose the Cover Grade for the maximum features and 'rustic' look).

I loved the Cedar timber ceilings at first, but after living with them for a while, found them kind of 'dark' and 'oppressive'. And a bit like living in a Swedish sauna. :-)

I *thought* that we had agreed to paint them white, hence the new white fan and lights.

Unbeknownst to me, my partner is now not so sure. The compromise was that we (I) would wait until we see what it looks like with the new floors before committing to having it painted or not.

Well, the floors are done, and the walls will be Lexicon Half (White).

It's kind of a big decision because it can't easily be reversed. The cedar needs specialised sealing products so the oil doesn't bleed through and make the white a yellowish color.

***Also, we actually *like* the brick wall and will putting in a new, slimline modern fireplace where the old one was (it was made of copper!!)

So, paint white? Or not?
