Need help with Rug colours for formal lounge
Comments (3)Sounds like you have plenty of green so I'd start looking at something in the peach to coral range, as a complement to your greens. Or look at rugs that have both green and peach. Another direction would be a rug with greens and blues, shown in the third rug below. It's fast becoming my favorite of the trio. I'd throw in plenty of pale yellow pillows with it, just to lighten things up. Carolyn Albert-Kincl, ASID...See MoreNeed help styling our black leather sofa
Comments (14)Definitely start with a rug. I don't know what your style is so can't make specific rug suggestion. But, I would take advantage of this neutral palette to choose a rug with a design and colors I love, then add pillows and accessories repeating those colors. Make sure the rug is large enough to be in scale with the sofa. The sofa has pretty hard lines, you might consider a round ottoman out of fabric. Above the sofa you could do artwork in graphic black and white, or color. Don't worry about everything matching. I am a believer that artwork is chosen because you love the piece. It should stand out in the room if you made the decision to invest in something. Check out local colleges the art department has several sales during the year of student art; especially around this time of year. Once you have the rug and ottoman add some chairs for additional seating. Enjoy and have fun....See MoreNeed ideas for my 'Bavarian style mission brown' river shack
Comments (13)Mission Brown should be expunged from all colour cards... it's a colour that kills. However there are some great browns out there (not that I would suggest any of them for this particular, low-ceilinged property. A good solid white (not pink- or yellow-based) all over and then stand back and work out where to take it next. Do you want to introduce colour in trims? Or just rely on the colour from rugs, furniture, cushions, paintings etc – you can make the most unlikely places sing....See MoreNeed help to style my formal living
Comments (12)Looks like you're going for a monochromatic look, but for now it's all very grey (grey couch, grey rug, grey cushions, grey wallpaper) so you need stronger accents of black & white, black to give it more depth and white to brighten it up (could just be the photo, but looks a bit dark) and then add some bling with silver & mirror accents, which I see you've already done with the curtain rods and coffee table legs (love the marble top btw)... so my suggestions would be: 1. Put a large mirror framed in black (silver will wash out against the grey wallpaper) e.g. 2. Looks like a bit of $$ was spent on the curtains so no need to change, but make them stand out by adding a thin black border to the sides (or a thicker say 40-50cm black border at the base) e.g. 3. If possible get a bigger side table (as the current one is completely lost in that corner) and a higher one too (as it sits too low compared to height of arms of couch) and place a nice silver or mirror base with black shade table lamp, e.g. 4. Get a rectangular black & white (animal print my perso fav) ottoman and place it at the open end of your living area, which will frame and zone the space but still allow easy access on either sides as well as creating extra seating when entertaining, e.g. 5. Remove a couple of the current cushions (too much of same-same) and add mix & match cushions, a couple of black & white ones to pick up the ottoman and one or two white faux fur ones to add a bit of glam (even add a white faux fur throw as suggested by ASVI) again same e.g. 6. Group some objects, pots, books, candles and/or flowers/fern (for warmth) in the same colours of black, white, grey and silver and create a nice little vignette on your coffee table, e.g....See MoreMoteef
