I have a double right now (one large, one small) and I use the small one to drip dry anything that doesn't go in the dishwasher. It's convenient, but even so I'm planning to switch to a single large sink in the future. I haven't found any double sinks that I really like, but I will admit I haven't seen a great solution to drip drying pots and pans. I really do use that second sink a lot (even if I towel dry my pots, which I don't usually bother to do, I still have to have a place to put them until I've finished the dishes). Most dishracks I've seen are intended for plates and utensils, which I just put in the dishwasher. If I can find a good dishrack for pots and pans, then I will be very happy with a large single basin sink I think.

We design our pantry with a small sink. I now wish I had more shelves to store food. If your kitchen sink is close to your pantry don't bother unless eg... - you entertain a lot and want to hide dirty plates as they cycle through the dishwasher in the pantry - have your fridge in the pantry and need to wash vegies, rinse out food storage containers, or - intend having you mixer/thermo in the room and need to rinse or drain food prep. Personally I think I'd rather be in the kitchen with family than working in a pantry.

I put a lot of thought into what kind of sink to install ino my new kitchen: single vs double, stainless steel vs other materials, dish drainer or not, and finally undermount vs top mount. I went safe and chose industrial grade steinless steel, double sink without a drainer but with aditional part with multi purpose. I was very indecisive about the last thing: undermount vs top mount sink and finally decided after reading this - I will go top mount.

Thank you everyone one for your ideas. I was thinking something like in this pic attached. A dark grey bench and subway tiled backsplash. I originally wanted a herringbone pattern with the tiles, but thought it might make the back splash lip of the ss sink look odd. I was thinking black handles as well. Plus we are getting a new cooker.
