Dining Room - artwork help!

I've finally got new chairs for my dining room, which make it look much bigger.
Previously, I had high back upholstered chairs with wood legs. They made the space feel very small.

I am after suggestions on decor for the middle of the table, and for the small wall. I was thinking of putting some hexagonal shelves like in the picture I've attached. Wood on the outside and black on the inside. I was then thinking of putting some sort of plant in at least two of the boxes.

Or I was thinking a group of framed prints running down the wall - perhaps food and eating related for fun - to fill the space, like the attached image.

The table was handmade by my grandfather for me. It's not perfect, but it's special.

Any other suggestions for the too is appreciated.

I think the corner needs something light bright & I would replace the light shade. The light shade is to dark and drags the eyes down. The table is lovely and as it is dark you need something to be light and bright. No more timber it will clash

I agree also. There's a lot of subdued tone here. Suggest a cheerful and light artwork for the wall to add colour and lift the space. Have tried loading a photo for you ... hope it works.

I believe that a statement artwork above the dining room table would look great, especially one that balances the two interior styles you have working for you. To me , I'd want to know the style and era of the house , and the look of the other rooms , and even the size of the room . On it's own , with that art , and white walls and timber floor , I'd say do a white leather suite ( or 5 or 6 matching white leather chairs ) and a large screen TV on another wall , and a large coffee table in either white gloss , or black frame and smoke glass top . And then set it off with 3 or 4 green leafy potplants ( all different plants and different heights ) in pots in similar blue and green and mustard hues as the art . Any windows do in light wooden ventians ( white slats would be overkill without seeing the room IMO ) or black as a contrast . Add a mustard or jute rug . BUT that may not suit the rest of the house , or the size or shape of the room .

Brianna, I agree with Debbie about the light shade. What a beautiful table your Grandfather made for you. It's certainly one to treasure. I would make some rectangular placemats in an upholstery fabric that can be washed. If you are making them yourself, prewash the fabric first so that any shrinkage should happen in that first wash. The fabric should be much lighter than the table. As for the middle of the table, how about a nice round or square plate. I wouldn't have anything high that would interrupt conversation. The other thing for the middle of the table that would work would be 4 square glass vases (9-11cm square and 10cms high) with a pear in each. Cheaper than fresh flowers and you can eat the pears when they are ripe.

suggesting light art work maybe framed photos in differentt sizes with light matching frames and put them up as if it is a gallery one on top of another makes it friendly and warm.... also get different light fixture this one is too dark and really too old in style something with a copper glow would be lovely or even an amusing light looking french style chandelier the room needs light touches to make it work .... hope this helps good luck ... love the table dear grandfather !!! a beautiful bowl for the centre filled with lemons or oranges or large seed pods could look great ..
