Artwork for hallway XL recessed walls

Hi, i have a long hallway with x2 XL recessed wall areas seperated by a door to bedroom in the middle. I would like to fill these spots with coordinating black and white abstract (minimalism) art to the exact size of 117cmx177cm but having trouble locating something suitable and not too pricey. Opposite the 2 large recessed walls is x2 openings to the lounge which i recently decorated with new wall art, and when sitting on the couches you look straight out of the openings to the recessed wall.

I already have existing wall art in entrance (start of the hallway) and the family room (at the end of the hallway) as you can see in photos attached.

I have been playing around with some downloadable art from etsy and putting posters up to see what i like, but due to the large size it has to be something i love. Some designs look to bold and some to soft..... just not sure what's appropriate.

Im obsessed with Celine Ziang Art (as per photo of matching set) but not sure if i'm willing to risk spending that much money online without seeing the product first...and what if it looks to heavy and i dont like it.

I'm so confused and have spent countless hours on the internet looking at stuff.

Please Help!

thanks monique, i totally agree about sculpture in black or white but where do i find something of that size 1.5m high? ...and affordable. i imagine to commission an artist would be rather expensive...prob out of my budget. I'm quite fussy and need to see what i'm buying first and have tendencies to change my mind after a while. I've come to the conclusion frames and glass of that size will be rather expensive so the most economical way is prob a canvas x2. I've even resorted to looking buying downloadable images and posters and having them copied to xl size of 117x177cm so i can put on the wall and determine what i actually like. It's really hard to find a pair though, some look to bold, some to pale, some to generic. I

You are on the right track... as you have it laid out at the moment I would agree that either the top or bottom need to line up. Otherwise if you want a less structured look you need to make it more obvious. I like the idea of black and white images... however coloured okay if you can keep the colours balanced.

I love the drama of the brick wall and it is a major design feature of the house... however, there is a LOT of exposed brick with the fireplace surround also being exposed and you have mentioned you dont like the colour. Have you thought about covering up the other walls rather than this one, to tone down the brick work? I just wonder if you hate the amount of brick and you are taking it out on this wall because that's where it is concentrated while overlooking the rest of the house? Just food for thought... more food for thought. BTW I love the idea of hanging plants (though watering them might be a pain), I love the idea of a dramatic feature pendant and I also love the idea of the rug, all will soften or harmonise the drama. www.billyhoostudio.com

Hi squirrel30. I ended up, on a professional's advice, having the whole bathroom stripped and redone. It actually worked out cheaper than any of the seemingly more innovative solutions. It seemed a shame to discard a lot of stuff that was in good order, but to get the result we wanted it proved the best approach and I'm delighted with the result. We had the floor pulled up and replaced with 600 x 600 textured grey tiles and 900 wide tiles in the shower with a grate at the end so in a very, very large shower we have only 3 grout lines and they are dark grey. We used slab tiles on the walls in the shower with dark grey grouting and 600 x 600 tiles elsewhere. Again resulting in very few grout lines, and no glass at all! Thanks for the suggestions | Houzz AU The ensuite looks similar but has a twin vanity and larger shower with a tiled nib wall rather than glass. I'm still interested to know more about microcement but I can't get anyone to answer inquiries. I've responded to a dozen or so ads but nobody has ever bothered to contact me. Not sure I would trust a supplier who is that disinterested in potential customers!!

Sorry about the photo delay. As you can see entrance is with black cabinet, and other end is family room with black couch and black striped canvas.

In the middle is lounge with artwork and grey couches with opening on either side looking at large recessed wall x2.

Hi Kerry_g, they are two great spaces to fill :)

You have a great combination of colour already in your rooms, so the question is do you want something dynamic that stands out or more subtle as to not overpower the room?

Something like the Inks on Paper works that I create may be of interest to you as they can have both effects on a room, depending on how they are styled.

If you like an artist's works and are concerned on whether the art you choose will look suitable in reality, speak with the artist about their returns policy. Most quality artists will have a reasonable returns policy in place, as this gives their customers peace of mind. Bluethumb (disclosure here - I have some of my art there) also has a 7 day free returns policy, and they have a great range of styles and sizes.

Gorgeous home! Your current dilemma is not uncommon - you'd like to fill the niches with artworks that are will be an exact fit, 117cm x 177cm? Can do.
