Need large Wallart for x2 large recessed areas.

first pic is my lounge which has opening on either side of tv (which by the way im open to suggestions of how to style the blankwall. We dont want tv on wall though)

Anyway each opening looks out to giant hallway recessed walls. I would love to fill the entire recess 177cmx117cm with some kind of black and white abstract minimalism art x2...not the same but matching or coordinating. Prob something with movement as you can see hallway is very long with straight lines.

Also working on something to put at the end in yet another large recess.

Please help with suggestions.....

Hi! Love the way your place is taking shape! I agree with the B+W art idea for the niches. You could go a number of ways here - commission an artist to do custom sized art or buy ready-made (perhaps even with a black frame). Could do a textured/textile artwork here too. Another nice idea would be gorgeous black and white photography. Sooo many gorgeous options!

At the end of the hall, I see an amazeballs piece of black sculpture! OR, paint the niche black and put an amazeballs piece of white sculpture (even a bust!) - tre glam and very very striking....would definitely draw the eye!

thanks monique, i totally agree about sculpture in black or white but where do i find something of that size 1.5m high? ...and affordable.

i imagine to commission an artist would be rather expensive...prob out of my budget. I'm quite fussy and need to see what i'm buying first and have tendencies to change my mind after a while. I've come to the conclusion frames and glass of that size will be rather expensive so the most economical way is prob a canvas x2. I've even resorted to looking buying downloadable images and posters and having them copied to xl size of 117x177cm so i can put on the wall and determine what i actually like. It's really hard to find a pair though, some look to bold, some to pale, some to generic. I

Absolutely agree with blueskies60 ! Remove the artwork/bench/plant that's on the left and replace then with either a bookshelf or a tall chest of drawers. Perhaps the plant can be repositioned into the corner on the floor where this troublesome niche is (there seems to be more than enough light there for a plant) and just place something calm and simple in the niche itself - perhaps a Japanese style scroll or pen and ink art work set off with a more rounded object sitting in the left corner of the niche; a gorgeous rock, a lovely candle, a calming statue... If you have (my preference) a chest of timber drawers on the left where the current art work is, you'll break up the symmetry, have more storage and have another surface upon which you can place a changing display of objects. This is the area that I would utilise for a mirror.

Wall recess in hallway — what to put?

I picked up the dark coloured carpet runner. This seems to make the hallway look very narrow. I suggest to perhaps try and remove it and see if it looks wider without it. My suggestion is yes it will. For the side wide cavity in the wall surface, you have a choice as others mentioned. However, do stay away from dark coloured paintings if necessary as it does make the hallway look narrower. My choice would be, remove the dark carpet from the hallway and use a large mirror in the wall area. It is than your choice what to put on the surface area of the cavity to compliment the mirror.

although i always prefer curtains a 6m wide opening will need either a very light fabric or about 1 m either side to fully pull back to each side where blinds would be able to be raised completely above the window (assuming there's somewhere to attach them) discuss options with a window covering specialist as there are some new options that may suit you better..i also suggest to clarify flyscreening, security and ventilation options for your very wide opening as we found a more flexible and cost effective result with a door height panel of stacked awning windows next to a wide section of stacking doors so that we can open the window for ventilation without opening the doors

Hi Deonne If your bathroom requires the two doors, my suggestion is NOT to have a bath. Keep it very clean and neat Across the recess have either a walk-in shower with a 600mm opening OR a glass panel and door. You may consider a seat in the shower ( example on our website ) A recess ( niche ) for shower 300mm high max length Wall hung, all drawer vanity. In-wall cistern toilet suite. Mixer diverter, overhead and handheld shower. Quality tapware, with min 10-year warranty Porcelain floor tiles min 300 x 300.
