Are you a white kitchen lover? I need your help.

I'm gutting my kitchen (actually, the entire townhouse). I'm putting in white shaker cabinets. In the vendor's photo above, they call the cabinet color a bright white, but it is a soft white (the photo is misleadingly). In person, the color is white and doesn't have obvious undertones, but it definitely is not a bright white.

I plan to paint the house trim/baseboards the same color as the cabinets.

I need help picking a white or off-white paint color (e.g. BM white dove) for the walls. What do you recommend? I also need help deciding if the ceiling color should match the walls or the trim. What do you think???

(The townhouse only has 8 foot ceilings. The quartz counter top will probably be soft white with some gray in it.)

theres no need to go matchy-matchy on every single thing! keep the ceilings and trim a bright white, otherwise it looks on the dingy side. white cabs, white trim, wht counter top, white ceiling, white baseboard,,,,whew,,,Going to look like a surgical room! That's a lot of white. If you match your wall paint to the cabinet paint, then everything is just going to blend into a giant off-white blob. Consider doing a nice gray on the walls so the cabinets stand out a bit. Keep your trim/baseboards white. I made the mistake once of using "biloxi" (Behr) on mine and it just looked 'dim' after awhile.

The easiest way to match your cabinets to the wall colour is to unscrew a cupboard door and take it to a paint store to match it. They can do that easily. It is much easier to do that than to pick a colour. Alternatively, you would have to go and get lots of samples and try and match it.

It is nice to make the trims a different white but in high gloss. I recommend using a half or quarter strength of the wall colour so there is a contrast. Use that same colour for the ceiling but make it a matt paint, not gloss. Does that all make sense? Hope so. All the best and reach out if you need.

Never been a fan of matching lighting exactly, but instead suggest coordinating the pendants with your current fixture. You don't have to stick to ball-shaped either and can maybe go with a tubular shape. If you're hubby is stuck on chrome, maybe a chrome tube would work... if you want more glass, we also carry a line of pendant lighting and I'm sure you'll find something to go with it or atleast give you an idea.

If moving plumbing, etc is too much for your budget, why don't you leave existing kitchen where it is, open up the wall to the hallway and that bedroom that faces into the pool area. Close off a wall near the entrance/formal living room to replace the bedroom. Advantages are a) not moving expensive kitchen wiring, plumbing etc. Kitchen window still looks out into entrance to see comings and goings AND back to pool for informal living (maybe casual dining at an island seating area, casual sitting for pool). b) the existing dining, living room is a separate space (great when your kids are older to have two living options for noise isolation - adults in one, kids in the other). Both sets of rooms open off the entrance way, and that new bedroom can be the one you use as home office or guest (leaving other bedrooms for family).

Great job on the kitchen and I agree with some of the former comments - a glass splash back would look good and the silver seems a good choice. If you decide to go with tiles I would suggest a White Tile with a smattering of Black and Grey markings with the colors prominent not subdued. I wouldn't think Brown but why not experiment with a few different colors and see how they look and in conjunction with other colors until you come up with a match. Only a small area but nice to get it just right first go. Good luck

Before choosing any surface, do the finger test, unless you are house clean slave. The finger test is see what marks show with a slightly greasy(hand lotion) fingers. Most blacks show finger marks big time. Same with counter tops. Best test is scatter with bread crumbs, if that disturbs you forget it, otherwise you will be kitchen cleaning all day. The same goes for concealed handles, they quickly get full of crusted much and chip easy. A working kitchen needs to be practical, easy to clean and totally family proof.

I agree that you may want to add contrast somewhere. If you do want an exact match it is possible that Bright White is actually a Lowes paint colour. It might be worth checking into as we found out.

We ordered Masonite interior doors at Home Depot. When I asked about having them factory painted we had the option to choose one of 3 Behr white paint colours. Behr elegant white was a pretty good match to our BM cloud white. We purchased their paint for the trim around the new doors and are very pleased.

It was much easier than running around with paint chips and we didn't have to paint 5 panelled doors!

I've included a photo of a kitchen that I did with white shaker cabinets and calcutta grey quartz on the island. The ceiling paint is BM white ceiling paint and the trim is BM white trim paint. I would suggest painting the walls something other than white. You will need a contrast against the white cabinets. It's ok that the trim will be a different white than the cabinets. The walls in the photo are SW sea salt, it looks like a soft green but in some lights it looks grey. Beautiful color.
