I am no expert, but it appears (from the wood, shape and handles) to be a danish teak dresser - they date from around the mid-late fifties and sixties. Don't think they are particularly rare (check for makers mark eg) Borge Mogensen/Sorborg Mobler?), but they are lovely, and very on-trend (similar new version by West Elm sells for $1099). Didn't find one exactly like yours on ebay, but similar vintage ones listed start at around AU $550-$600 and go up from there. A great thrifting find!

Lisa, it depends on how clever the person is who designs, details and installs the door, and what elements in the photo appeal to you. Judging from the adjacent doors it doesn't look like it is much bigger than a standard size door. If I was engaged to design it I would consider using one of the engineered flooring timbers, such as the ones made by Mafi, as a way to keep things lighter, cheaper and more stable, on a steel frame. http://www.mafi.com.au/domino-larch-vulcano-sanded-natural-oil/ Somebody else may use conventional planks of wood that have been planed then sanded smooth. Both ways are bespoke, so will cost big dollars, and probably not a job that would be covered by your standard carpenter. It would be a matter of working closely with a clever craftsman to get the best value. Do you like the door due to the height of the entry hall, or the character from the mismatched timbers? Is your entry hall as tall as the one in the photo? Is it the other elements in the photo, such as the amount of light flooding in from the sidelight and highlight windows that contribute to how you feel about it? At the end of the day the design and installation is a really important element to the entry of your home, so it is often worthwhile to spend a bit extra to get something special. after pictures below. we have a fixed price contract so no extra cost but I believe the depth of yhe ground and house/conrete path was under estimated hence the need for retaining walls and they have filled the area with pebble to create another step down. I think it looks pretty good actually whats everyone else think? any ideas on how you would use this space? I think it will look better with grass

Hi Ms Tash. Lovely house and nice big trees across the road. I think it’s good place to start by figuring out the hardscaping first. Retaining walls for terracing is a part of that, but looking at the block as a whole allows you to do work (incl plantings) in stages and achieve a more cohesive result. Some considerations: What type of driveway is planned, concrete, gravel, asphalt? Do you want pathway to front door? Is drainage required for driveway? Will you have fencing (what type/material)? Outdoor entertainment area, and if so, how do you want to use it (BBQ, dining, spa, fire pit, etc). Do you want grassy areas for children? Do you have pets? Where will clothes hoist be located? Do you want a concrete pad for it? Do you plan a pool in future? How well does the block drain after a hard rain? Where does water tend to pool? Will you also have a retaining wall for sloped area out the back? What material are you thinking of using for this, brick, timber, stone? I know this sounds like a lot, but it’s helpful to sketch out some plans of different ideas (make it to scale) to see how it looks and suits your present and future needs and wants. I’m no expert, just have built and landscaped from scratch several times and learned there are better ways of going about things. A visit to a landscape designer would also be a worthy investment, if nothing more than to have a professional plan to work to. Cheers.
