Comments (5)That is a whole lot of question, there, and difficult to comment on the unseen furn. pieces, but a couple thoughts to start the ball rolling: Yes, you can combine patterns.Take your major colors (navy, white , red/orange) and look for patterns of different sizes and percentages:70% navy in a toile,20%navy in a stripe, etc. Gather your softgood selections together before selecting paint shades, for better accuracy in wall color. Carry colors into the kitchen by painting your chairs, and through softgood display ( tablecloth, towels, apron) as well as everyday work items routinely left out. Keep trim colour the same thoughout the space. You might slipcover the chairs at the ends of the table in a different fabric, but rather than a pattern, consider a plain fabric w accents like a monogram or stamped design to transition from the remaining patterned chairs to the couch slipcover. In general, I'd shy from painting large pieces black in a small space, but without knowing your other selections, can not make specific suggestions.( I wonder if navy might look well, when all is put together? Perhaps your fabric choices will be so sharp that a neutral off-white is begged for...) Continue to post as you make decisions, and more folks will join in. Comments (8)That's a really nice space, and the armchairs are really lovely. Would look excellent reupholstered. Here are some fabrics that would work in the room, and be quite kid-friendly. (Warrick brand fabric, the names are on the image) I'd work with the glacier colour on the sofa, and maybe the blue or green on the chairs, plus do a bunch of scatter cushions. For furniture layout ideas, here's a free PDF with loads of options and a kit to cut & paste your own ideas too. https://mailchi.mp/9c071e61583e/awkwardhome-furnitureplan Hope that helps! p.s. ibringing in the colours from nature outside will also work really well! ...oops very old post!...See MoreHelp, help, Decor help! Comments (25)Hi everyone, I'd like to thank you all for your input. Have been a busy spring and summer, but now I'm back and able to focus on the living room. Couple of things have been done/removed since lately: 1. Leather lounge set: I've (luckily) sold the leather lounge set - absolutely great piece with great quality, but not my taste at all. It made a world difference to the living room and even dear hubby, who liked the set, did acknowledge that the difference of less furnitures is great. 2. The rug 3. The white cabinet 4. New curtains with pelmet I love the pelmet although it's old style and yes, the curtains are too short! Will amend this at later stage :) These changes have made a huge impact on the room. Also, I'm also open to change the dining table with chairs for another nice option in an attempt to make this more interesting/cozy/inviting. So, these are the only things that I won't be able to change (we may (note on may) also move house by the end of this year/early next year) # Blinds # Colour of trims and built-in bookcase # Camel back sofa - I'm happy to reupholster it though and change the fabric. This will cost $2000 but I think it's worth it since they are really comfortable and are of good quality. I'd like to integrate the white frame with the gold poster in the design - an idea is to place 3x posters on the biggest wall of the air conditioner. I'm aware that a brown frame may suit the gold poster better, but I'm so tired of the colour brown at this moment. --------- So, I now feel I'm able to adjust as per your suggestions and recommendations much easier now. Appreciate every response and idea (And sorry for the mess of papers on the desk and floor! We're busy professionals and sometimes I have to let my husband have his creative space despite my OCD when it comes to decluttering and keeping it tidy)...See MoreSideboard/buffet/bench top space
Comments (6)where are the existing kitchen cabinets and exact position of the sink (and dw?) stove and fridge? ..please include the length of all walls for better understanding of the total space available......but, assuming that the whole end wall is about 3.6m and the existing kitchen cabinets run along the bedroom wall about 3.6m? (with stove sink and fridge?) having matching kitchen cabinets installed under the window with a matching tall 1m wide pantry cabinet in the corner (no more than 60cms deep to allow doors to open without projecting past the corner) would give the best results ...anything else is just a free standing cabinet and with the new cabinets (and new counter and doors for the old kitchen?) you'll have a streamlined new kitchen with three times the storage and counter space with patience and enthusiasm the new cupboards could be made out of flatpac cabinets available in most Hardware stores...See MoreLeela Landers
