Studio floor is concrete, help!
We're doing a massive renovation on a sixties beach shack we're about to move into.
I am a painter and jewellery-maker and one of the reasons I love this place (apart from the fabulous location!) is the outdoor studio. Only thing is that it has a concrete floor which will be to hard/cold/ugly, as I'm on my feet a lot.
With a limited budget I've looked at sisal or hemp flooring, has anybody got experience with how this will be over concrete?
I look forward to any suggestions :)

10 years agoKarndean have a great variety of lino that is easy to lay in strips, I liked the white washed wooden floor look so much I used it in my unit. It is warm to walk on, can take a bit of punishment and isn't phased by water spills. It is not as hard as wood or cement to walk on either. DITTO MB Design, beach shack jealousy alert!!!

Comments (7)I am not sure of these colours and where they are from but I have got a sample here in the images. You don't say how big the area this will be... I would tend to go with a light colour up against the jarrah floors...it looks stunning....dark...will tend to close the room in. Romano or Icelandia would be my choice. Comments (23)I will be the loan naysayer and go: Vinyl Plank timber pattern tiles. I did these in my kitchen and they helped make the room. If not you will have to level. If flat, you can lay them yourself. Our floor had to be levelled and it was tough. still got a few high patches and gaps because of that. However I have done it on a concrete surface myself since and it's beautiful. Benefits: Nice and soft on the foot. (less ankle pain) single tile replacement. Looks fantastic. No PVC glue fume issues and fairly resilient. Do be wary though of metal chair legs scraping the floor. Waterproof! when installed right with no gaps! Comments (15)Would never use epoxy highly toxic stuff you would be breathing in for years. I looked pretty Heavily into PCM it gives its heat off in a 6 hour cycle at least the product available here do. Whereas concrete is 8-10 hours which is closer what you need to even out the day / night cycle. Thanks for the heads Macyjean up about lead in recycled bricks I will look into it! I think there is low VOC sealers for Slate. I am struggling to find a good local supplier of slate. I love the idea of the faded rugs I think that would work well. Comments (2)The builder can only work the concrete with what is provided. Most concrete is poured with the expectation that it will be covered by tiles, floor boards or carpet. 10 years agoWe have a concrete floor in a 1 BR beach apartment. It was too uneven for vinyl, so we had it painted with epoxy. This involved grinding and a trowel application of epoxy then a finish coat. It looks great and is easy to clean. We used Atlas Coatings in Sydney. If you do apply epoxy, note that darker colours look better (we were happy with a
silver grey despite that) and that it should be screened from direct sunlight while drying. Otherwise it gets tiny bubbles in it.
