I'm a but more traditional with my microwave use, but I do know someone who has cooked a stew in there!

I can cook everything almost, in a microwave, but I dislike making soup, as it makes a mess.

Soup?! Do you just cook for a long time?

Soup is better on a stove, especially if you make your own stock.

hubby just showed me how to cook corn on the cob..1 minute on each side..one of the girls at work told me her mum used it to dry her undies after washing..when travelling..just make sure it's pure cotton or else they burn hehehehe

I tend to use the microwave mostly for reheating leftovers and defrosting. That said, we also use it for "par boiling" potatoes before they go on the grill or in the roast pan; for steaming frozen peas; softening butter; and cooking bacon. Due to a somewhat overcrowded house over Christmas, I also used mine for coddling eggs. Corn on the cob is also good - leave most of the green on, add a dab of butter, and put a lid on the pot, and go for it. Steamed fish is good too.

Yes, it's quite healthy cooking, no oil needed for most things, fish ,chicken and meat come out juicy, if not overcooked.

MIcrowave food is less tasty to me & maybe due to lack of oil or butter & the browning process so we tend to only use for defrosting & reheating.

We love our ceramic fry pan for many dishes from stir fry to spaghetti bolognaise & a grill pan for meats. It's really easy to clean too!

For healthy fish cooking we use the wrapped paper (en papillote) in the oven method adding lemon & flavours for really easy healthy fish meals.

I'm a big fan of using a microwave for my version of a risotto.

Rice, water, vegetable soup powder, hand full of mixed veggies and set for steam for 12 mins, add prawns with 3 mins to go.

I use my microwave for my heat pack to ease my sore muscles. Think I use it more for that than food.

Defrosting, reheating, popcorn, poached eggs... that's about it (and I still haven't quite got the hang of the eggs yet, they still sometimes explode)

Sharon you're game..I wouldn't even contemplate doing eggs in the microwave..the mess would be just too much..

Microwaved scrambled eggs have to be the creamiest eggs I've ever had. I heat milk in mine for coffee instead of having to clean a saucepan and when I am baking kumera or pumpkin I zap it whole in the microwave to make it easier to slice up and of course it also reduces the baking time.

I warm my plates sometimes with a damp square of kitchen paper in between. The water in the paper heats up and does the trick. I always do scrambled eggs but I use half power and stir after 45 seconds then after 20 secs and so on until done. I par boil vegetables for roasting and soups to save time. We keep our bread in the freezer and defrost before use, also rolls, banana bread, un-iced cake etc.

I've heated up a wet face cloth to wipe my grandkids' faces rather than wait for the hot water to come through. More energy efficient.

If my coffee or tea goes cool when I'm on the phone I'll reheat it for 20 secs.

We use our microwave for:

Poaching eggs

Melting chocolate

Cooking porridge

Cooking frozen vegies

Making a hot all milk cocoa

Popping corn

Defrosting bread and cakes

Heating party pies (grandchildren don't mind the slightly soggy pastry)

Reheating leftovers

Heating wheat pack

Defrosting meat for the evening meal - don't turn it on - it keeps it safe from cats and ants.

I have not tried it myself, but my Mum swears by microwave for custard and gravy.

Sit all pastry items on multiple layers of paper towel, and put it on top too. Pastry won't be soggy.

All the above, including drying teatowels, making jam, sauces, cakes, chocolate slice, warming the spoilt cat's food in winter, etc etc. Was thinking of zapping weeds so I can compost them without them regrowing. You can sterilise soil too.
