Staining Baltic pine timber floors

We have an old home (about100 years old) and recently removed the carpets to reveal Baltic pine timber. We wish to sand and polish and will have a professional to do so. Parts of the timber on either side of the hallway were coloured by a black tar that I believe was used as most people would lay a runner down the middle of the hallway. Damaged boards have been replaced by a friend so all is ready to go. Our concern is that after sanding and polishing the final look might be too light in colour. It was suggested that we check out stains offered by Feast Watson. Anybody have any ideas what stain would look ok? Not interested in anything too dark or red but concerned the natural colour may be too light.
