Need help for my lounge for small house I'm about to move into
Comments (31)Even though that is a fairly small space you could put some decorative trellises just in front of the fence with some ever flowering vines on them. Install a paver patio between them and the windows you hope to transform into doors.. You could also have the wisteria trained onto a pergola that would create a little shade for the patio as well. Some beautiful potted specimens/flowers and a couple of attractive outdoor chairs and you would have created a beautiful "picture" to act as a focus to the room. Additionally you have extra space for entertaining. Obviously the reason the previous owner obscured the window was because there wasn't much to look at. By creating a "view," you change the dynamic of the room as well as getting the light you want. Actual light will brighten the room like no change of floor would....See MoreWhat's your magic cleaning tip?
Comments (23)Haha CCI, it's good to know I'm not the only one happy to use such a convoluted description of a handy shower tool. I don't think there'd be any issue with bicarb in the front loader, although I use it in a top loader with a liquid detergent. It just boosts the power of the detergent, which is why you're able to use so much less of it. The vinegar works as a softener, but doesn't leave any vinegar smell. Honestly, since doing this my towels and face cloths have been softer than ever. It took a few washes to get the full effect, but it was noticeable from the first one. Vinegar and bicarb also help keep the machine fresh and clean, as well as the plumbing, potentially saving problems down the track. My Dyson recently blew up, it was well out of warranty. There are TWO filters you need to clean, not one... I'd only been doing the one, for almost 8 years! Anyway, they sent me a code to cover postage costs and I boxed it up and sent it off to them. They had it back to me very quickly with a brand new replacement motor (and filters), which has a new warranty on it. It cost me almost $90. Fantastic service. Every single part is replaceable, I love that. What a shame more companies don't have such great service and ethic....See MoreInterior painting tips required

Comments (18)The main assets of your space are the beautiful flooring, the bay window, and the fireplace. The couches need to be rearranged to incorporate the bay window into the space instead of blocking it. This would make the room feel much more spacious and elegant. To that end I would swap the piano and TV as others have suggested. I would also get rid of all the beige, which makes the room rather drab. Either leave the curtains off altogether, or have sheer ones in a tertiary colour with matching cushions to make the room brighter. The floor needs a rug for softness but I wouldn't make it too large, possibly a sage green persian one, but with a discrete pattern. I would also replace the coffee table and TV unit as well as the ceiling light and corner lamp with lighter funky modern pieces - this would not necessarily clash with the more traditional feel of other elements. The fireplace might have an interesting classic design but it is totally lost in blackness! I would paint it white, same as the walls to make its design stand out and also make the room brighter. The baroque mirror over the fireplace looks totally out of place and only reflects the ceiling. A large full height frameless mirror for the wall over the fireplace would make the room feel much more spacious. I would limit artwork to a few larger pieces with simple or no frames. A large painting on the wall opposite the fireplace would be reflected in the mirror/wall over the fireplace and enjoyed from most angles of the room....See More- 10 years ago
