Poll: Which room in your home are you most proud of?
Comments (5)That's hard. Doing a total renovation, every room is being done to my complete satisfaction naturally, so I'm loving every one of them and being in them....See MorePOLL: What is the biggest challenge when renovating?
Comments (1)We have found that for our clients, the hardest part is choosing the design. If you have found the right builder then it is very easy to stay on budget and schedule - At Eco Building Services we put a lot of effort into making sure our clients make all of their selections BEFORE we go to contract, and indeed BEFORE we submit final quote. This is the ONLY way that we can ensure our clients projects remain on budget and schedule. Now, if you choose the WRONG builder - then your budget and schedule will definitely get blown We have just finalised a bathroom renovation for a client - went 1 week over schedule because they changed their minds on the tiles 4 times AFTER contract, and is now over budget as well. So if you want to keep on budget and schedule - Choose your design and builder very carefully and make sure ALL selections are finalised...See MorePOLL: Is renovating with your partner fun or frustrating?
Comments (27)We discuss and plan everything for months before we start. We don't even get quotes until we have planned out what we want, worked out fall back/cheaper options, and priced what materials we can. We project manage together, physically do whatever we can to reduce costs e.g.. some demo, all of the painting, buy the tiles/taps/handles etc and pick them up, daily clean-up. We will be doing the kitchen in about 12 months and are already planning, talking to kitchen designers, looking at appliances, figuring out if we can get the finishes we want or need a backup design. Once we can see final costs/ quotes we will choose the finishes we are willing to pay for. This may involve trading off a preferred benchtop for a preferred appliance, bespoke colour for a standard colour. The important thing is that we discuss everything in detail until we agree. This sometimes involves give and take. When one feels strongly about something, we trade with the other to give them something they feel strongly about. We have very similar tastes and senses of colour and design, which helps enormously,...See MoreNew ensuite as part of renovation
Comments (2)are you also planning other changes as it's usually better to plan the whole house renovation at the same time even if you do the work in stages...please post a plan of the house including dimensions and a list of what you want to change...See MoreAnn Nisbet Studio
