Should I change our interior colour scheme?

We will soon be having our house interior painted as its been about 15 years since the last time it was painted and it needs a freshen up. My dilemma is whether we should keep the same colour scheme (which I love) or switch to something a bit more on-trend (neutrals). Our house is three bedrooms with a large family room/ kitchen area and separate to room. We have the same colour scheme all through the house, which is my preference. Walls are a gold/ochre colour and ceilings and trim are a rich cream/off white. Our decor is eclectic with some antiques and mid 20th century pieces. We have timber blinds in all rooms which I don't want to change. Living areas are tiled in large pale terracotta coloured tiles.
Because a total repaint is such a disruptive process - not to mention expensive! - I don't want to be disappointed with the result if I change the colour but by the same token I don't want to waste an opportunity to do something different. My main concern with going with neutral colours is that although it would look fresh and different initially, it may be a bit "boring" after a while.
Thoughts?

The burgundy colour is right on trend. There are elements of Mediterranean. You could play that up, if you like the colour scheme, while reducing the small items on the walls, for a more up to date look.

One thing , in the first picture, have you had water leaking into the lounge room ceiling ? I would get that fixed before anything else.

What you can see on the lounge room ceiling is a reflection from the glass coffee table. In fact, our ceilings are perfect. ☺️

I agree with Billmore Homes paperbark is a very nice colour and goes well with Jasper http://colorbond.com/colour?Category=4969402186C2455AB302B1ECD6FE7176 The idea to use double strength is good for outside projects because the light can affect colour so much at different times of the day. Soft greys are back in fashion too so don't overlook Ironstone, Basalt and Wallaby( the web link shows what I mean by those colour titles) if you are stuck with the blue door it can be hard to coordinate with blue but you can alter its shade slightly by a freshen-up coat of the original colour or a tone or two darker or a few drops of black (and I mean drops) is amazing the depth it adds to a paint tone without changing the overall colour.

We have black tiles in our house because we like black. We also have wooden floors. The kitchen is birch with laminate black granite bench tops. Our open plan works perfectly with the different floors because we have stayed with timber and black. Howver I love colour so we have incorporated red dining chairs and mustard and black cushions and rug in our family room. Timber look floor tiles are a great option, realistic and easy to clean. For you, the most important thing is to decide what you really want and go for it.

Definitely change the look. There is a lot going on in there. Since you are already spending big bucks on painting, spend couple hundred dollars on colour consultant from Dulux or some interior decorator. When you live that long with same stuff around you, you become blind to its shortcomings. You need to "see" it with different eyes. Good luck, and please don't take me wrong. Show us final result.

I think all white would look amazing, it would clean and brighten the place, plus contrast beautifully with the bricks and terracotta coloured floors.

what about this ? we had our kitchen feature wall done in this colour and I loved it..we had terracotta floors too but a darker terracotta..more brown in it..

Hi! I think you already know that a new look would be the way to go, as mentioned it is a little dated with the terracotta floors and yellow paint. Although you say you prefer the same colour right through - if you do go for a neutral, why not use the same colour but different strengths in different areas or rooms, to add interest and ensure you don't get bored after a while. I am sure you already notice the current paint colour reflecting different levels of light according to the natural light in each area. You may feel you would like to cosy up an area more and lighten others - hence picking one colour and adjusting the depth accordingly. It will still have a unified look but will be more interesting. I wouldn't recommend grey at all but lean towards a warmer undertone. Take a look at Resene Spanish White - everything to eighth to triple strength and all the tones in between. It will sit well with your burgandy and red accent pieces as well as the blue I can see too. Good Luck!

I think you' re on the right track with changing to neutral. If you paint with natural white dulux or resend quarter Spanish would make the place brighter. I would be inclined to paint fireplace. But leave brown trimming. That's my personal taste though.

Agree that painting the fireplace white to match the doors, trim and timber work throughout would be great.. will really lift the place but do leave the mantel timber :) - GO FOR IT...

Looks like the Spanish White is the way to go - thanks, VANESSA, for your suggestion, and to everyone else for your help and advice. Think I'll keep the fireplace bricks and timber as they are but am now excited about the new look of the white or shades thereof.

Debex, buy a sample pot, and try it on white card from your stationer. Post it around and look at it in different lights.

Hi debex, go for white, you won't regret it, your room will feel fresh and clean and that's the best feeling in the world.

Bring colour in your accessorizes and it will look great. Good luck :)
