Floor tile colours and effect of lighting throughout the day
Comments (12)The floor tile is basically a flat colour there's no vein or pattern at all. It's the bench that has the pattern. We already have a skylight and the only other area we can put a window has an a/c unit unfortunately. The other walls have rooms on either side. It's tough. I found another tile yesterday I love. But from about 11 until 3pm, the entire island bench has this yellow hue to it. I think because no direct sunlight is hitting it?? But mornings and evenings it looks lovely! I might just have to bite the bullet and go with how nice it looks for the majority of the time (mornings and evenings). That's when we are most there anyway....See MoreTiled Floor Replacement - bamboo?
Comments (34)Here's a video of an area of water damaged bamboo being removed and replaced Joyzzz. Maybe you'll consider replacing the area in front of your fridge. Like you I also have bamboo in the kitchen (and pot plants throughout the house), but haven't had any issues with spills marking the floor. It's a shame there's so much variation in the manufacturing process resulting in some floors tolerating spills and others not at all. I do have a damaged board though thanks to a guest leaving a tap running causing an overflow...that I wasn't told about until days later, grrr. Fortunately the damage is in a shadowed corner and the sealer is still intact, so it isn't noticeable, just a wrinkled surface to the touch. Which is lucky, because our home is earth-covered and there is nowhere for water to drain out of the sub-floor as we "tanked" it with a sealer to ensure no moisture can make its way in. That board sat there in a puddle for days! I still wonder why only one board suffered damage, very strange......See MoreRemoving cork to lay laminate
Comments (3)Depends on how flat your concrete subfloor is. Most of the time an old concrete floor is not perfectly flat and you need to add a levelling compound to fill in the low areas. As timber laminate floors are precision engineered then they don't have much tolerance for an uneven substrate, and they start to look gappy and uneven. No point in putting "not cheap" flooring on a substandard surface. A long, steel straight edge laid across the floor on its edge (not flat) should let you know how uneven your floor is. Comments (8)Your bathroom looks like a good size, but somehow the wall tiles colour doesnt match the floor. My personal approach is about practicality and longevity. Too much grout means too much work to keep the grout clean and looks distracting too. Because they put similar pictures in catalogues and then people wanna have it at home too. The same is everybody now goes for black and white fit outs and then all the bathrooms look the same....See Morejtoot222
