What colour roof & gutters ??
Comments (17)Beautiful view Jane, gosh you're on the side of a mountain no? Yes if left natural the cedar will weather to grey but to me that looks weathered & dry & possibly not in keeping with your house style. I still like the red door & think the cedar weatherboards look to be in good condition. I would start by painting the gutter & fascia in the graphite, then the pergola as well & lose the cinder if that is the light colour. Funny thing, I live in a pole home too but without your amazing views!...See MoreTree species
Comments (10)Thanks everyone for all the input, I have confirmed with the owner today who says they are Manchurian Pears. As stunning as they are I am not sure they are the right choice for where I want them....I want a row of autum colour/spring blossom (ideally soft pink) with lush green leaves in summer. The garden bed is about 1.2 m deep and 16 metres length, colour bond fence will be behind trees. On the other side of the future fenceline on the adjoining block is a sewer easement apparently large concrete pipe... so want to be mindful of invasive roots. Also what I like about these trees is the rounder shape with the " sticky outward" type branches rather than capital pears which seem to have branches more upright. Suggestions given these criteria? Thx for all the input..I love this site!!...See MoreTrellis Options
Comments (13)We have star jasmine out front covering a trellis. Also in Victoria with clay soil. It has grown well in just over 2 years. We have 2 plants covering a little over 2m wide span (maybe 1.3m tall?) Just encourage it to grow out sideways and not always up to give a nice dense coverage from low down. It doesn't flower for very long each year but if healthy then the foliage is attractive. Sorry about odd shaped photo but needed to crop it to just show the plant ;) previous experience with ornamental grape was that it was hardy and could come back from harsh treatment. It really does have a bare look for a large portion of the year though. Great for over a pergola but not so much for disguising a fence/neighbours....See MoreHelp please for adding colour with a new small tree
Comments (9)I planted a row of five Manchurian Pear trees along my front boundary and love their changes through the seasons. They are very hardy once established and are often used as street trees for their hardiness and good scale for a nature strip. Beautiful red/orange foilage in autumn, white blossums in spring, and lush green foilage in summer provides good shade. They look great as a single tree, a group of three, or a row of five trees.
