Exterior color scheme for our 1940's weatherboard terracotta tiled roof house in Australia
Comments (17)Is there part of the house we can't see? Where is your front door? Just the double frontage like that is plain, but that was the style and not much you can do about it. The homes you are looking at do have a lot of features with opportunities to bring in other colours but there is nowhere with yours to do that and if you try it usually cheapens it. If you take the triple fronted house you posted, I would do the lighter green on the weatherboard and the deeper green like they have used on the window frames, I would do for the baseboards and the front door. I would keep the window frames and eaves white and paint the guttering to match the roof. Are you country? Are here any water issues for the garden? Instead of trying to do something with the house, I think I would be inclined to give it all a cottagy look with a picket front fence, nice entrance, a lush lawn and lots of plants for colour and lushness. The dark green baseboard will be a nice background for some small shrubs in front of the house. Weatherboards really lend themselves to that look. Don't forget the addition of old tyre swans - lol I notice you have small awnings over the windows - maybe replace them with some striped canvas ones in greens and terracotta - if you can get the combination. Comments (14)The Dulux Stepney is a nice grey and would look great with the trim in Dulux Lecicon, you could paint the lower timber in Dulux Raku or Domino to ground the home. Grab some sample pots and try a few boards and some trim areas to get a feel before you purchase the paint for your complete home. Browse some of the exteriors in the Houzz photo's area. Don't forget to let us all know what you decide to go with and post an after photo for all to see. Happy painting Regards Paul Wales...See MoreAdding weatherboard to small section of front of house
Comments (15)if the original asbestos walls are in good condition then they can re-be painted but if the walls are too damaged to be saved the asbestos needs to be removed by professionals and the cladding replaced, no reason you can't have different profiles on the front and sides as long as joints and corners are sealed properly but if you plan to install new windows it could be better to wait to repair sections of wall as the windows are replaced (i'd prefer to have all the roof and external walls in good condition and then do the internal work at leisure)... .modern fibrous cements are excellent ...we've just used flat fibrous cement with curved battens over joints and very happy with the results for our 50's house (there are several different brands available through the big hardware stores and research on line is much easier than trying to work out the variations in store) the gabled portico can be made as a separate structure or as a extension to the roof with valley gutters depending on placement of the solar panels (and/or solar panels can be moved)...See MoreModern Weatherboard Look
Comments (9)Check out weathertex. It’s an Australian product, 25 year warranty, great eco credentials and produces cladding ranging from a federation period profile through to contemporary profiles. Used on lots of different styles of projects. It’s lighter than fibro cement. 97% Australian hardwood, 3% natural waxes, termite resistant, rated to BAL 19. Comes primed, to be painted or natural, with timber like look. I was sceptical when our architect first specified it, then did my research and I’ve changed my mind. Sustainability, durability, price and aesthetics are all important to us so weathertex fits the bill. Worth checking out the website....See MoreTribbletrouble44152k7 Trek
