exterior trim paint colour for 70’s house ?
Comments (0)Timber and brick house built in the 70’s. All exterior trims originally painted Mission Brown plus colorbond on garage doors. Updated in the 90’s repainted with lighter sand colour to match bricks. Another paint job required for 2018... what paint colour would suit modern ideas? Fascias have been replaced and undercoated. Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks...See MoreIdeas to revamp mid 70's house exterior.
Comments (1)Hi Jen, Great house, I think a charcoal colour would look great on windows, guttering, steps , porch and brown bricks, here’s a few inspiration photos for you of what you may like for your house and garden, I would keep the bricks and just update the trims etc, could look great, trim off the scallop edge on blinds for a more modern look, you could even paint them to match trims( I have done this ) love the raised beds , adds a real feature, could look fabulous....See More70’s pale yellow brick colour scheme advice!!!!
Comments (9)Nerida, I would probably use Dulux Vivid White, which is better than Dulux Whisper White for trim as it is a purer white. Woodland Grey will work with gutters and downpipes, although with the yellow tones of the brickwork I would get samples of other colours in the blue/grey range which will counterbalance the yellows. Colorbond Deep Ocean and Colorbond Ironstone could be options. The underside of your verandah looks like it may have been stained timber at one stage, but has been painted brown and concealed any grain? I can't quite make it out from the photo? If this is the case then consider a fresh paint colour such as a quarter strength of your gutter and downpipe colour. There is no rule saying that all eaves have to be white. You can't lime wash over paint that conceals the timber grain. I will be in Adelaide mid-October if you want to set up a Dr Retro House Call colour consultation for your home. Comments (6)The carport -- remove , OR try and source the same support poles as your terrace , and redo it in those . I guess you could paint it all light grey and hope everyone misses it , but what about the shadows when the sun shines -- that may freak some people out ! I do have another idea , but you'll have to get to the bottom to see that ! The sliding door that has replaced the garage door , presumably to make another room , could possibly have the door replaced with a window and maybe an infill panel , say in a cedar stain ? But here's my cunning plan -- get a heap of 40mm x 40mm battens , and staain them in a cedar or even a charcoal . Do 25 or 30 or whatever vertically mounted across that sliding door . Then do about 6 each side of that very right hand window , the same length as the height of that window . And then do 30 or 40 more along the carport -- maybe just the left hand side so you can still open car doors ? You will need to get 2 or 3 long horizontal bars welded horizontally , and presumably painted white , BUT what it does is bring in the timber tones to several spots , it ties in with the lighter brick , but probably most importantly , it detracts and also lets the light through ....See More- 9 years ago
