Need help with living room layout.
Comments (4)Hi. The window placement and fireplace, would suggest an arrangement of an L shape of seating, ( connected or unconnected) so that one lot of seating faces the fire, the other faces the other wall (carport direction) but it remains as one , it would give you options for looking out of the windows, at the fire in winter or TV. I am struggling with plans for a new house and trying to decide where to locate the TV on the wall with the fireplace, and it is so difficult as it disrupts symmetry. I think that the offset windows will allow that space to work fine with the TV on the other wall....See MoreHELP! Any ideas how to fix the living room end of our dining room?
Comments (25)First ,is removing excess furniture an option? Second, why bar fridge in the dining area, that really ruins the look. Seems that you can not move dining table closer to the kitchen because you have light pendant above the table, so can you move piano where your black couch is and couch on the other side of the room instead of creamy colour sofa . I notice the luck of coffee tables and side tables, that's probably why you like to sit around dining table, it is not visitors friendly and doesn't encourage conversation or interaction. I will come back to it have to study photos more. Are the arm chain the other room similar colour to the couch in the dining area?...See MoreHelp! With living room layout
Comments (15)So if you’re setting up the formal dining as an office, what is the study going to be? Proves that a home with lots of rooms is not an advantage. You could have less rooms and a better space. You said you have two toddlers, so I would set up their play space with tv, in the music room, away from the awkward thoroughfare. with all the toys they probably have it will be a contained space. Use the formal lounge room as the theatre room. Or the other way around. If they are eating then they do not need a tv to distract them. You say you only have two children, that’s a lot of rooms for two children. Use the awkward thoroughfare room as a lounge room to talk, away from any tv....See MoreLayout advice for living / dining room for a reno of an old city house
Comments (7)Good suggestions from Kate. I would also suggest the following. Remove the kitchen pass through wall completely and install a peninsula bench. A support beam may be required. Or a support pillar which could be incorporated at end of the bench. Install a 2400mm high solid core sliding door, think barn style, for the bathroom door. This will give a bit more sound proofing for the poor people using your toilet in the dining room. Place the lounge furniture so the corridor is along the wall. Using single accent chairs. All dining and lounge furniture should be light in colour. The furniture in the photos is dark and bulky and sucking the light out of the room. Paint the stairs completely in a light colour. You have not mentioned a budget, so these changes are cosmetic more than structural (apart from the pass through wall)...See Morescottevie
