Add a large vintage camera, tripod style floor light, and large b+w photo of some colonial wildlife, in a plain black frame. Stick to earthy colours plus a little black. Though I call it modern, vintage safari items are fine, just not many. The art above is modern in design and colours, as terracotta is coming into style. You can add couch cushions in colours from that art.

The second , grey couch room can take some pastel accents in pillows and a throw rug. If no woman there, use light blues and greens. If a woman in residence, add light pink, peach or apricot to the cool colour. These textiles are inexpensive and easy to find at department stores. Colours of the year 2016 are Pantone Rose Quartz, a light pink, and Pantone Serenity Blue. They work well together. Add personal family touches, but not too much clutter.

If you decided to go with the colonial safari theme in the brown and black living room, I suggest cream window coverings made from calico or canvas, or plantation shutters, or both. The plantation shutters should be an earthy colour like cream or wooden, or black, but not white.

If you decide to go with the pastel/geometric theme in the grey couch room, I suggest honeycomb , or cell shades for the windows. These have a geometric construction. Get white, or grey, as with neutral you can easily change your accent colours.

That brings me to an alternative colour scheme for the grey couch room. Instead of pastels, just add mustard yellow. A few delicate black accents such as leggy black side tables, would complement that scheme. Maybe a bit of white, and no other colours.

I don't really have any wedding presents to use.

And also we are going to install off white plantation shutters for all our windows.

In the brown couch room i would like to change the wall color.I guess its too dark for the couch and also update the coffee table.Should i be painting it or buy a different coffee table?

Any advice on that?

If you wanted to try that safari theme, you could try a vintage looking trunk as a coffee table, as they can hold cushions, throws, magazines, Xbox controllers, etc., out of sight.

the plantation shutters would be great for a safari theme, but in that room definitely put plain cream sheers in front of them, in a natural cotton. White isn't great with brown. Earthy colours are coming in.
