Creative pantry ideas?

Bought my first apartment and just realised there isn't a "standard" full length cupboard for a pantry (noticed a while ago there isn't a linen cupboard either but I have sorted that out with built in seating that I'll build after I move in). What's a new couple to do?
I hate seeing food stuffs in view and it's too late to redesign the kitchen to incorporate one, any ideas?
There's a small under bench cupboard and a small overhead cupboard next to the exhaust fan, behind the door, in the second picture. I know I've got to be creative but if I use these spaces where do the pots and pans go, and I'm not very tall so, the overhead cupboards we're going to be used for things I won't use everyday.

Comments (19)I agree that bench space in your pantry would be a better use of all that space. I'm not quite finished building this yet, but I have a narrow walk in pantry. I put a bench at the end and I will add some shallow shelving to the left on the wall. This bench will house my microwave underbench, and the coffee machine above bench. The draw is for microwave dishes, and the cupboard to the left will be for less used electrical appliances storage. It also has a fixed panel to allow for shelving that comes out from the wall and I still get to utilise that corner for storage. Eventually I will put overhead cupboards over this bench for coffee cups etc. It will be great to have somewhere close to pantry to put groceries down and it keeps my least used appliances still at a convenient place and out of sight. Comments (8)I have been planing my new butler's pantry for a while and here are some of my favourites. My space is 2.8m x 1.5m (L-shaped). I am having 450mm wide bench with open shelving top and bottom on the long side (maybe one row of open drawers like in first photo), 650mm wide bench at the end with sink and cupboard below. I also have a small alcove on the left which will be used as a broom closet (easy access for spills). In your case I would run the bench and overhead cupboards from the window, along the right hand wall and back around to the door. You could then have a study desk under the window with the natural light. You may also have room to put a fold down ironing board cupboard all alternatively put in a pull out ironing board in the bench that returns near the door. Comments (4)Hi There, There are so many different options these days! It's totally dependent on what you plan on storing in there. My personal favorite is having 5-6 drawers with a mixture of shallow and deep. Drawers are a much more effective way of storing items as you are essentially pulling the back of the cabinet out to you. This way when you can stack as far back as a standard shelf but you're not pulling out everything in the front row to get to the back. Another benefit of this is storage for small appliances that can be a pain when below bench as they can be heavy and hard to manoeuvre our of corner cabinets for example but when in a drawer access is instantly improved! I think we are nearly there, and are pretty happy with the result...we still ended up with the door into bedroom from hall....but think it will be ok.....may swing the door the other way...will put doors on bathroom and sitting(not shown) I like the 2 dressing areas we have created either side of our wardrobes, and the seperate toilet.
