Need help with my boring out dated Living room Please,,,
Comments (17)Initially, in that case, I'm liking the idea of playing with silver. But first, the main difficulty is that there is a mix of styles -- quite pared-down and functional on the one side of the room, then on the other side the mirror and all, which are ornate. My first suggestion is to move the TV to where the mirror is, as Mark was provisionally suggesting above. Would your TV console fit there? Then we might be able to bring the mirror and that pretty chest of drawers into the sitting area, which would give you a better balance. Separate the mirror and the chest; they're fighting each other. The mirror could go over the brown couch so that it reflects the view from the window that's currently blocked by the TV. Would the chest fit where the small table currently is? The small table could then act as a side table to the black couch, in the corner where you have I-know-not-what ... that big black board. I'd suggest you take everything off it except the white statuette. I have other thoughts but I'll leave it at that for now; very interested to see what Mark suggests....See MoreNeed help with layout and design of living room / dining room
Comments (7)To be blunt -- the room isn't really big enough ! So you have to sort out priorities , and space . You have a dining table , and a computer desk . Can you get rid of the computer desk , by having your computer tower mounted behind the couch or similar , and a wireless keyboard and mouse that you can use on the dining table ? Mount the monitor on a wall , or if you don't need in depth graphics , I understand you can use your TV ( I've heard something about the 'refresh rate' is less on a TV ? ) . Maybe even have a monitor but also the option of using your TV ? Could you use a 'breakfast bar' , probably where the computer desk is now , I know its not sociable all staring at a wall , but it would/could serve as a brakfast bar and computer workstation . Could you get rid of the dining table and chairs , and have a large coffee table , or 2 smaller ones , and eat 'casually' ( my polite way of saying eat sitting on the couch ) ? Even mounting the TV on the wall will let you get rid of the cabinet , but I gather you have gaming consoles in there ? And the present arrangement with the pot plants uses some space -- maybe some shelves with them on will still retain the plants but free up floor space ? Just some thoughts off the top of my head ....See MoreHelp style my new living and dining room please
Comments (12)I actually think the rug you have is a great start , but I actually think you need to look at the bigger picture , and formulate a plan . The end of the kitchen bench looks beige . Beige , of course , is bad haha , and doesn't go with grey . And you have a lot of grey ! Grey kitchen cupboards , grey walls , grey ceilings , grey doors and windows , and in the styled pics -- grey furniture . Call it surfmist , or drab , or overcast , or any of the other 50 shades haha , and its still grey . And to really add to this scene are those 70's tiles . The veranda roof underside looks unpainted or beige , the fence is an off-white . Me -- I'd do the ceiling in white . Just so it isn't grey . The kitchen end , and the cupboard doors -- burnt orange would suit , royal blue maybe , or the bright ornage/yellow or red if you want colour , but I sense thats a No . The outside fence in charcoal , the underside of the terrace roof probably charcoal too , but I'd want to know the rest of the outside colours -- lets hope they aren't grey haha ! THEN you can do the white marble table , the gold legged chairs , obviously the rug , you'd even get away with the grey couches , BUT add some coloured cushions , maybe some light blue and some royal blue to reference the rug . Maybe mid and rich red to reference the kitchen . Even the charcoal might work but it needs something -- a bright lamp , at least 1 large abstract art work in the tones you want -- the reds and/or the blues and/or the yellows -- several colours , and several shades of your dominant two . Doing it now will cost $5-10k , but it will look much more integrated , it will be done , and easier than in a year too haha ! Delay if budget is tight , but I'd personally sooner do that and have a $100 dining table with a $30 tablecloth for the 1st year or 2 , than a $2k or $5k marble and gold one ....See MoreTiles for my dining and living room area.
Comments (6)Hi Monica, I’d suggest, if time and finances allow, go stay in an Airbnb with shiny tiles and get a feel for them yourself. Alternatively, buy a box of those particular tiles and experiment. Many tile suppliers will refund or credit if the tiles are returned undamaged within a few weeks. One person’s pet peeve is another’s dream choice, after all. What to look for? I’d suggest slipperiness, marking from footprints etc, whether they feel cold (tiles vary in this regard), glare from reflections, how dusty or gritty they look and feel. Remember though, all floors have good and bad points and some of the newer tiles have overcome some of the problems some of the older shiny tiles had. There’s also the option of investing in a robotic vacuum, cordless mops etc to keep that shiny, luxe look easier to maintain. Life is short, if you love them, I say go for it...See More- 12 years ago
