Yes black and white can be very classy and pretty. I do suggest you add a pop of another colour (such as yellow) or else you might get tired of everything being black and white. I had a quick look on Google for black and white bedrooms and there are lots of inspiring photos to see there. You could add the pop of colour with the curtains, cushions on the bed, a rug on the floor, a lamp shade, art work hanging on the walls, some cute photo frames or a bunch of pretty flowers in a coloured vase. There are lots of easy ways to add colour to a room. Have a look on Google yourself or on the Houzz web site and get some ideas. Wishing you lots of luck and have fun decorating.

Emily, with being a renter, I'd definitely check Pinterest for temporary solutions. I've seen DIYs where you can starch fabric to walls with an iron. Also try temporary wall paper/decals, but I'd test a small area first. Cabinet makers or even yourself would be able to create a flush vanity without attaching it to the wall. Plywood, especially hoop pine, has received a lot of traction. It really gives a clean, organic look that you could have custom cut to fit in the area. You could also use it on the wall – it could be stained, left natural, or painted for a feature. Have a look at EchoPanel. It is a decorative, acoustic pinboard that would add a splash of color/design. If it is above your vanity, you could pin pictures, inspirations, etc.

Blue Gum floorboards how could it not look beautiful!! and yes wheelchair friendly although if we were in a wheelchair I guess we would have to move closer to town and transport and shops as this house was going to be in the country talking of moving... husband has caved and said we can move to the Bay of Islands whoop whoop! he still wants to go to France for 2 years but he said we could build or buy before we go so that changes the type of house now because we were building near a school and families this will be more a beach house that we can leave for the kids to enjoy and various friends who want it while away so I have swapped the master over to be away from the laundry garage door and hot water heat pump which is quite noisy and the guest rooms now have a Jack and Jill bathroom I haven't changed the footprints at all it's still the same size just changed the layout a little bit The bunk room would have a sliding door outside which means you could access that part of the house privately without coming through the front door or the bunk room could be a small kitchenette /come dining room / come lounge room (very small ) and rent it out as a 1 bedroom self contained apartment Once we live there full time ... will upload a photo in the next Post

You could add beautiful wall art, choose identical frames like black metal, or for something unique try wood artwork, try west elm, even a laser cut screen painted to a colour to suit your room, could look fabulous.
