Main Bedroom Colours

I have recently painted the walls Antique White USA. The lighting in the room is average. The room looks out to a grey metal fence and a new home is to be built closely on the other side. I have yet to establish garden greenery on this narrow shady side of the house. My best option is to distract the eye from the area with a warm colour in the furnishing or perhaps a feature wall. The bedroom furniture is the popular natural rustic oak Although the exterior of the home is very modern, I am using my upmarket French Provincial look with great success so would prefer a regal touch. Unfortunately a chandelier is not an option for lighting. Thank you.

Please post photos of the bedroom furniture, and room. We need the colour of the oak. What is the problem with the chandelier? Can you have crystal bed lights?

colourwise, start looking for regal bedding. Is this a master bedroom with a partner? If so, go for restrained romance. Not lots of cushions piled up, that's not in style presently.

You say French Provincial, but in your ideabooks I am seeing transitional. You could combine those looks.

what are the room dimensions, do you have room for a chair?

i appreciate your detailed reply .... Thank you! We haven't unpacked our furniture for a photo ... A correction .... please read as Natural Ash Brosa Furniture. My ideas book is for placement inspiration only. In the meantime, I think I may resolve the problem by making the decor striking enough to distract from the outside view. i have just painted the room so don't want to damage the ceiling installing a chandelier instead of the existing down lights. I have a number of mirrors in beautiful carved frames, perhaps one over the bed or one either side of the bed above the tallboys ..... lovely brass or wrought iron candle stick holders ... old gold textured ottoman at the base of the bed, matching fabric couch, toile covered chair and a striking rug half placed under the bed. Colours are in varied shades of rich burgundy which seems to fit with the Natural Ash. Leaving old mirrors with gold frames .... or a chalk paint effect ... how does all of this sound to you? Thanks again! :)

You have done a great job so far! A small suggestion, but a dark throw across the bottom of the bed before the seat. Like mohair to give another texture. I would avoid any more of a Baroque feel, it could just slip into looking over done. Like the sheer curtain idea, but maybe have a chintz look side curtain too (non functional, to again create depth). Maybe nothing behind the bed, but soft image on the other wall next to the door, something like a foggy landscape, with a lone tree, so your looking into the image, avoid too ornate a frame, maybe a dark frame so in contrast to the mirror. Replace laundry basket with a softer rattan, limed look. The wallpaper idea is worth considering but tone on tone. Also the current bedside lights are taking up too much room and are the wrong colour shade. I would replace the bedside lights with sconces, raising them will lighten the area, giving some space to the room and beside the bed too. Small shades, in a soft feminine grey chintz (similar to doona) or do the other way - go darker, with dark brass metal work, maybe even some crystals, in a smokey glass, just a touch, might be bead work. Therefore maybe changing the chandelier to dark with smokey glass, I would presume it would draw the eye to it as a focal point. I do love your dark candles. I think the room would benefit from a few darker tones, creating a little more drama and romance. Best of luck!

By viable I mean workable, functional. A chimney sweep or a builder adept in chimneys will give you a report. Certainly enquire about a future gas fitting rather than logs if possible. I say this as a fireplace anywhere is delightful and, if downstairs, it could heat upstairs through the house, to a certain point too. If you look at the quality of the brick laying, you will see that its not meant to be a feature which is why it was rendered, but that is choice only. Certainly seal the bricks. Good luck and stay with it if you can. Everybody loves the romance of a fire.

You could add beautiful wall art, choose identical frames like black metal, or for something unique try wood artwork, try west elm, even a laser cut screen painted to a colour to suit your room, could look fabulous.

I'm thinking of changing the name of my bedroom to the Activity Area too haha . . . . . . . . On a more serious note , the actual open space in bed 1 looks to be more than in bed 2 , plus there is already an ensuite and an 'average' sized WIR too . If you were to use Bed 2 as the Master , you'd probably need to put a door basically by the stairs , enclosing the Bed , Activity Area , Bathroom and Linen . Otherwise you are sharing the Bathroom with everyone . Mightn't be a huge problem if there's only 2 of you , but imagine family , or family staying , or other guests . Then there's the Bed 3 bathroom problem , and whilst inter-related , the WC 'problem' . So you spend $20k on doors and walls , plus paint and decor , to not achieve anything , and make some things worse . Or you spend $10k , but go from having an ensuite and a WIR with a door , to sharing a bath and having an 'open' Robe ? I can't see many upsides . . . . . . . . .

Burgundy is in fashion , but with too much traditional decor it can look heavy and dark. The rich look is in. I would advise that you avoid damask and similar bedding, and similar bedding sets, they are out of date. Temper the burgundy with white, and go for champagne gold , it's not as heavy. Matte gold or brushed is in fashion too. Avoid recreating the 1980s with too much drapery. Pare it back for a balanced look between details and silence.

you will get much better help from Houzzers if you post the room photos, and if you can find pics of your furniture online that will help too.

I'm having trouble visualising your colour scheme but I know very dark blue/navy shades are very in right now and are always recommended as good colours for a bedroom as blues are calming. I'm about to do the same as a feature wall behind my bed. I think it looks great next to white trim and with metallic, both of which you have. I'm looking now at these two:
