I love Australian things and dream of visiting one day. As a child I had a stuffed Koala with a baby. I loved that! I gave it to friends that I thought would appreciate having a toy, (they were even more poor than us) but they didn't even say thank-you or play with it. I would have happily taken my stuffed toy back! :-( I love tropical flowers and visiting the Australian exhibits at whatever zoo has them. One day I dream of diving the Great Barrier, too. Someday... And of course we almost always have Yellow Tail wine in the house ;-)

Id do a pergola with clean lines with retractable blinds/shade in the roof part. There are some DIY blinds on Pintrest. For your windows I think external blinds that stop the heat hitting the glass are your best option.

this is'nt a wooden rangehood....it's a simple framework with added trims built to resemble a fireplace with a very high opening and a built in exhaust system ...a more elaborate than usual wall cabinet that can be built by a carpenter or cabinet maker...talk to the plumber and electrician for advice about a suitable rangehood or exhaust system that will function at the higher level than the standard height above the cooktop...you may have some luck with a commercial product designed for commercial kitchen then, once you have a suitable rangehood the cabinet can be built around it
