Please help dairy farmers and their communities survive the wholesale dairy price drop, by buying more Australian Dairy products.
So I live in a farming community. A local cafe owner was telling me, he has dairy farmers coming in in despair. He gives them their coffee for free, but he can't afford it, as his wife has cancer. Business is down in town.
Please help the dairy farmers by buying more Aussie dairy: milk, cheese, yoghurt, cream, butter, ice cream, cheesecake, custard, quiche, whatever, as long as its made with Australian milk.
thanks, Houzzers, Trib.
Sure, but so long as people are buying supermarket milk at $1 a litre, the farmers are in trouble. I never buy the Coles/Woolies label milk, but millions of Aussies do.

Great post, I'm shocked how badly the big milk wholesalers and retailers have treated our farmers - its a shame that the city folk are not made more aware and that so little can be done.
I have always wondered why small dairy farmers do not produce more cheese in cooperatives, at least to take care of oversupply and low prices. But it easy to make comments sitting on a computer in Melbourne in front of TV , I'm sure the complexities and costs are many.
But it used to be done once, and the cheese used to be great I used to deliver cheese from Leongatha to Melbourne in my early days at RMIT (to make extra money), for a man that used to make a type of Australian Parmigiano (Used to work for Parmigiano - Now I think the Italian company is called Parmalat -in Parma Italy) before he came to Australia - lovely areas East Gippsland and the cheese tasted great.
Would love to see more Australian cheese made by small farmers, I will continue to by Australian Dairy products.
Yes, please buy Aussie cheese!
I've seen a few articles about this recently but I really don't understand it, it costs what it costs to produce the product and the farmers deserve to get a fair price which takes that into account, how can someone just say 'keep working hard but we're going to pay you less for it so bad luck'.
We had Big M last night.

not a slip slop slap in sight. ;)
Well, I thought the guys on Houzz would be happy to see that ad again!
Today there were two trolleys just outside the supermarket doors to put groceries in for the farmers. They also wanted toiletries, etc. it hits home when they are asking for snack bars for the kids' school lunches, and nappies. These are families.
Certainly is not good for morale - "asking for snacks for the kids"
What is the name of the town - if you feel its ok to state the town - maybe it could be publicized in one of the main newspapers or TV.
This might be a lame suggestion from someone "sitting in front of the TV" but could you take a photo and send it to the main news media with a small storey or comment?
All the best
Unfortunately I can't mention the town here because I have a kid of my own to protect. Still if everyone keeps eating more Aussie dairy, it has to help.
A farmer from here was interviewed on mainstream TV, said she had considered suicide. Lovely lady, I used to know her through ballet class. These are Aussie hard battlers like the rest of us, but they go out long before dawn and freeze their patooties off for our milk. Now they are making zero income from their hard work, and have over $100,000 new debts instead.
This is the farmer, "maidmarion" she's a lovely person. Her blog has won awards.
Had a look at her blog - very interesting - loved the photos - brought back memories of another time.
Bought some Aussie dairy products today, Danone yoghurt, some desserts, flavoured milks, very nice. Ran into a local dairy farmer who told me what brands to buy.
Milk price has sunk further for farmers
Murray Goulburn, yes, I read that story in the news this week. :-(
You know a Chinese company want to buy in . I think MG are trying to make their books look good. Today in the paper they said the young Aussie farmers who took loans to grow their farms will be forced out. That will be more farms for cashed up foreigners to buy.
I bought more dairy products today. Plus my first coffee cream eclaire this year. That will take some dieting to lose. Gee it was nice, though.
Here's a terrific parody dairy farmers video from Ireland. The dairy cows in my area don't winter in barns, it doesn't get below freezing here
Haha, that was great!
I saw this on tonight's news. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/tractor-trip-highlights-dairy-farmers-plight-20160717-gq7ifn.html
Thanks Macy! I hope his campaign works!
Four Corners tonight.
Thank you Macy! It's sheer insanity.
Are any Houzzers consuming more milk products to help out? Would love to hear if you are, share your recipes, with us?
I hate rice pudding but I know many like it!
If if you have better recipes you prefer, feel free to add!
