Kichen Bin Drawer?
Comments (7)We have a new two-bin drawer in the kitchen of our newly built house and it works really well. The brand is Halo and it looks very similar to the Hettich ones but maybe a bit more sturdy-looking. The kitchen company originally offered shallower bins (half-depth) that fit under the sink, bit I went for the full depth ones and don't regret it for a minute. There is a shelf above the bins for a dustpan & brush, or whatever else you don't mind storing in the same cupboard as the bins, which is also practical. I can see merit in using the space under the sink for the bins, but in our large and busy kitchen I am very happy not to have to empty the bins so often. The door size is standard, so if in future there are no replacement bins available (if they ever wear out, as they're really solid), it is a relatively simple matter to convert this drawer into a cupboard or some such other solution. Comments (27)I spent ages figuring out the lay out of our kitchen and am really happy with the result (four months in). We put the sink on the back wall, under a window and love looking out. Make sure there is a bin drawer next to the sink. Ours goes bin, sink, dishwasher, drawers, stove, drawers, oven stack. I think the passages in your kitchen area are a bit narrow. We have 1300mm between the benchtop edges. People can then pass each other easily and it doesn't matter if the drawers or dishwasher is open. The island then has drawers holding the plates and cutlery. You can unload the dishwasher straight into the opposite drawers which the kids love. You have two lots of corner cupboards in the pantry and might be better off with one straight line as I don't believe you gain much more and it will feel more spacious. Consider leaving a space on the kitchen side of the island so you can sit too. I hate standing while entertaining and everyone else is sitting at the island! Comments (1)I am not sure of the source but it is a good idea to have a dual bin with rubbish in one and recycling in the other. Make them as big as you can otherwise you will be forever emptying the bin and tempted to put things in the rubbish instead. at least 34 litres. And go with a pull out bin rather than an opening cupboard....See MoreWhich kitchen design would you choose?
Comments (62)Hi SonaandDi, In case you haven't come across it, here is the link to my finished kitchen: https://www.houzz.com.au/discussions/5598603/renovation-of-our-1956-red-brick-triple-fronted-home-all-done This layout has the potential for issues, but I tried to factor those in by noting where the fridge doors came to when fully opened. I should have allowed a little more width for the fridge gap, as the theory didn't quite translate in practice: on the plans I allowed the minimum of 20mm either side of fridge, but ended up with only about 13mm (was not fun getting the fridge in!). So my suggestion is to make sure there is 50mm either side of fridge. eg the fridge space is 1000mm wide for french door fridge around the 900mm mark. Even so, my doors do open fully (vegie drawers slide out unobstructed), as the doors themselves sit forward of the nib wall on the right. If your fridge space is wider, you won't need to sit the fridge out the full thickness of the doors, which may look more streamlined. But make sure you allow for 50mm space at the back of fridge. This will decide the depth of your nib wall. I calculated mine as 50mm plus the depth of the fridge to the start of the doors. You might prefer to make it a bit deeper, as the doors have more room to open due to the extra width of the space. It isn't annoying having the door opening over the pantry entry. It isn't often that someone wants to get to the pantry at the exact moment someone else opens the fridge. Even if that happened, you could get past if you couldn't wait: Good luck with your renovation! Because you can't be on site, I would always factor in more wiggle room. Let me know if I can help with any more info - I could talk about this stuff all day long!...See Moremyownstyle13
