I think these rooms need a bit of life and personality. Colorful cushions on the sofas, art on the walls (especially the white walls in living and dining areas) and some tallish objects as well on the entertainment unit. I'd try out yellows, oranges, maybe even some teal, and when you find a combo you like, get a rug and some art and lamps or vases to go with it. You have a good base to work with, but you need to add some more of yourself to it.

Definitely the basket is unnecessary and without it makes cleaning easier too. If I really want to be picky, I prefer just the three pieces on one side, just swap the plants for the brighter colour. I like things a bit off balance. I hate to do this to you, but memo for the future - always get non reflective glass in frames, makes a big difference. Now have some fun with some Christmas decorations to give it a whole new look:)) You will find this is an area to have a lot of fun with and to make regular changes to.

Another thing to consider is the materials of the rug - soft fibres like bamboo and silk are cool to the touch as opposed to materials like hemp which have a "warmer" feel underfoot. In terms of colour, I noticed you have accents of green in your chair upholstery and artwork - try to keep to cool greens or blue/greens to offset the warm wood tones. I am so scared of colour but I love this rug & am forever in her debt. I thought my husband was going to have a heart attack when I returned from Bowral (we’re in Old Bar-Taree) with that colourful glass bowl on the glass table. At 67 I have finally accepted colour!
