Exterior color scheme for our 1940's weatherboard terracotta tiled roof house in Australia
Comments (17)Is there part of the house we can't see? Where is your front door? Just the double frontage like that is plain, but that was the style and not much you can do about it. The homes you are looking at do have a lot of features with opportunities to bring in other colours but there is nowhere with yours to do that and if you try it usually cheapens it. If you take the triple fronted house you posted, I would do the lighter green on the weatherboard and the deeper green like they have used on the window frames, I would do for the baseboards and the front door. I would keep the window frames and eaves white and paint the guttering to match the roof. Are you country? Are here any water issues for the garden? Instead of trying to do something with the house, I think I would be inclined to give it all a cottagy look with a picket front fence, nice entrance, a lush lawn and lots of plants for colour and lushness. The dark green baseboard will be a nice background for some small shrubs in front of the house. Weatherboards really lend themselves to that look. Don't forget the addition of old tyre swans - lol I notice you have small awnings over the windows - maybe replace them with some striped canvas ones in greens and terracotta - if you can get the combination. Comments (5)for bright and breezy go for pale yellows and oranges - blues & greys are everywhere - or look at light greens You can go with Surfmist for the roof and facias to keep it lighter - I would even do a Zinc roof with this design for a clean, modern minimalist look. Then look at Dulux Tinker Light at half & quarter tones if you want to go into the yellows or try Dulux Fresh Frappe or Misty Moore for the greens ... Try something different. If you have a neutral roof, you can go crazy with colours - and change them more easily whenever you want to update your look. Good Luck! :)...See MoreNeed help with the house exterior
Comments (3)Too many variables without being on site as colour influenced by surrounding vegetation, colour of neighbour's roof etc etc. worth getting someone to advise on site. Too expensive an exercise to get wrong by not getting in an expert. Also colours influenced by your Basix report and or council covenants....See MoreExterior House and Roof Colour - Help please!
Comments (8)Hi Pele - I hope you don't mind, but to my mind the thing that immediately jumps out at me as not fitting is the colour of the orange terrace tiles! The wall colour and roof colour seem in the earth/cool ochre range, and sort of complement the cool grey driveway even though they are different. The terrace tiles being bright orange clash! If you do/don't have the budget, I would prioritise painting or staining these tiles the Basalt colour which is a deeper grey like bluestone! Or even better switch your budget to retiling this area with a deeper grey or bluestone exterior tile. Add a few plant pots - and I love your timber garage door and possibly timber balustrade - and it would be dramatically transformed! I think this would be a better impact-for-dollar than painting the roof tiles which look to me to be in good condition. Good Luck!...See More- 8 years ago
