What would you do to the front of our 1979 brick house?
Comments (10)Thanks everyone so much for your suggestions. The general consensus seems to be that we should work on the garden, which we agree with and this is actually what we are in the process of doing. Love bcdc602 suggestion of adding silver leaf plants and grasses. We recently planted two lilly pillies either side of the front window which will grow quite tall and cover those solid brown sections of wall. We are also removing the blue awnings over the coming weeks. Interesting suggestion by telperien to paint the window frames white. Will give that some thought. Thanks again!...See MoreHelp updating a tired spanish-style red/brown brick home
Comments (14)I have just painted lower level of my brick house monument also gutters. I love it & less maintenance also & you don't see the cobwebs or mould. I used it on the eaves of another home in a tropical location where mould was a problem & paint additives didn't work. I would do window frames & all timber surrounds white & Gge & front doors a soft taupe. For internal walls in rental situations for the last 20 years I have used ' foxtail 1/2 strength' it is a warm grey & with white timber work it looks very modern & crisp. Comments (7)Hi, I agree with you, the salmon is a bit yuk. Personally I don’t see the point changing the garage doors unless you were changing the roof. They talk to each other so leave them. The first thing I’d do is massively prune/clear the garden. It’s a very beautiful garden and well cared for, but it’s doing nothing for the facade of your house. Your house is drowned out by it. Now the trims, that comes down to what you like but I’d go for something dark and rich tones. I like good old woodland grey too, just cause it goes with everything. Best of luck. And please post an after shot :)...See MoreHow to modernise the facade of a late 60’s Italian brown brick home
Comments (5)it's a gorgeous house, nothing as awful as your description: think Roman mid century modern for inspiration but you must keep the breeze bricks (with an extra railing to bring it up to safe legal balcony height 865cm? and the stone panelling but the stacked bricks and the stair railings look too dainty and would be better with a solid framework to match the chunky pergola and, unless you have a gorgeous view from inside the house, consider making the front upstairs balcony railing in a solid panel (try painting the glass to trial a dark colour) and clad the whole upstairs balcony wall with the Scyon panelling but i prefer the dark (painted dark grey?) brick at the front with the very distinctive square white arch......See Morehaephestus
