Just bought our first home, and need help with design please!
Comments (20)Congrats, great potential. I agree that a grey like limed white would be great on the walls. The ceilings look lower than some 60s houses and painting both ceiling and walls in the one colour or 1/4 strength can accentuate the height of the rooms. White trim on the skirts and door frames are not too bland but those windows may look better framed with a darker trim. This colour palate will be a great canvas for you to add colour and texture that you indicated you like in furniture, baskets, throws etc. Suggest sticking to painting pre move in and once you've lived there a while you will know what you/house needs. Enjoy...See MoreDesperate for advice on plants & landscaping for our brand new garden
Comments (12)Wow amazing advice - thank you!! We are in the mid-hinterland on the Gold Coast. :) Since posting we have planted out the back strip with a mix of Vibernum, Chinese dwarf bamboo, elephant ears, Xanadu and ornamental grass. We still have both sides to do yet and it feels like it will never end! Unfortunately our garden beds were edged with pavers at build stage and we aren't equipped to rip them out to widen the garden beds now. but I am considering culling the mulch in some areas on the sides and putting in feature sections with Riverstones. I love the idea of using water feature/bowl and will try to incorporate one. We went and bought 9 golden cane palms which we haven't yet planted due to some posts online about the root systems and them being problematic, we are thinking about maybe putting them along the retaining wall, any ideas how to manage the root growth? We thought about keeping them in larger pots and planting around the pots, has anyone seen this executed well? Updated pic attached. You can see a bush fire that went across the hinterland yesterday, bit close for comfort! Also the palms we are thinking about in bags against the wall. PS - Whoever would have thought that turf is so hard to keep lush! OMG thats a whole other post! hahaha...See MoreHelp me blend this ugly garage to the house
Comments (9)I think it’s cute! You use ‘ugly’ way too generously, lol! Even just doing the roof colour would help, before you even consider or afford whatever you decide to do to the brick - could you match the roof to the colour bond colour on the garage? Would that help tie in? Then I’m sure you’d find your theme for the fence. And agreed - landscaping will make a world of difference; draw the eye away a little bit from just the stark house front. Happy renos!! Enjoy the beach....See MoreUgly duckling desperately in need of a makeover
Comments (7)I agree with MB Design. The less done the better for now, I reckon. It will cost quite a bit to landscape this space and if nothing is to be added that gives shade, not sure if it is worth spending a lot of money for now. Some psitostroms (or however you spell those Neighbour-be-gones) along the fenceline - or even instead of a fenceline - is as good as an idea as anything for now. A cluster of multisized succucents amidst a little rock garden of sorts in the centre will at least stop anyone parking on the lawn....See MoreSt Bri
