Need advice on kitchen colours
Comments (4)Sounds quite good. I love basic black and white. But will it suit the rest of the house? Take holistic approach to see if it will be a good fit. It may need decorative doors and panelling rather than plain and featureless like a minimalist fit out. Start choosing the doors at the same time as looking at colours....See MoreKitchen help please! - cabinet advice needed
Comments (37)Hi iggs85 as it is an older kitchen I would not spend a huge amount of money on a revamp. It is definitely possible to paint laminate but good preparation is vital to ensure the paint 'sticks'. However a quality painter is going to charge you about the same as your resurfacing quote. Using either a painter or a resurfacing company does let you choose any colour though. The biggest disadvantage of the current benchtop is the bullnose which is very dated. From your photo, the colour and pattern look OK but you could get a stone 'overlay' put on it. They square off the bullnose so it looks more contemporary. An acrylic feature panel on the return is another alternative to vinyl planks. It looks like glass, comes in a good range of colours and is relatively inexpensive compared to glass. See http://zenolite.com/range as an example. You can buy acrylic sheets from Bunnings. You could also use pressed metal panels as a feature eg. http://www.wunderlite.com.au/catalogue/details/1/79/pressed-metal-crystal?start=25 Add some new handles on doors and drawers too....See MoreKitchen light shade colour advice
Comments (11)What have you committed to already? as to be honest I think it would be worthwhile having a rethink as you live with a kitchen for a long time. Have you thought about having the darker cupboards on the lower level and another lighter colour on top? The lights could be dust catchers which can happen with a moist kitchen environment. Are they cut glass as you could go with something the same shape in a plain finish. With the splash back you could go for a subtle silver grey metallic glass, but your bench top looks quite yellow / pink in my monitor so take a sample to check against. I like a bright splash backs but it all depends on the amount of the colour and how it works with your other colours. If you go with painted glass there is no limit on what you choose. Overall it feels as there is a beige theme and a grey theme which you need to ensure there is one element that can draw them together - this may be your cupboards but it is hard to tell on the computer screen. A brand new kitchen is a unique opportunity to have what you want and to find harmony in the choices so it is worth taking the time. All the best....See MoreI need your kitchen-lighting advice
Comments (27)the easiest way to light any space is look at which way the globes point, and you can see it in the picture you posted. When that fitting is turned on the light hits the ceiling first and washes down from there. What you need is functional lighting whether you make a statement of the light or let the kitchen do the talking is up to you, the best form of task lighting for you in there would be a 3 circuit track system, allowing you to place and point the light where you want it. And being 3 circuit the same track could have 3 different functional light fittings suspended from the 1 power source....See Morebathroomcurious
