Which room for what and layout help for dining and living rooms
Comments (20)Two years later... We ended up purchasing a 3-seater for wall opposite fireplace, a 2-seater for under the highlight window (leaves a comfortable space to enter the room) and an armchair placed diagonally opposite the couches. I've fooled the advice to pull the furniture in off the walls a little. We have just updated the fireplace with the (professional) installation of an insert wood heater and (DIY) replacement of hearth and tiles/timber mantel to conceal the brick while meeting the safety specifications of the heater (required a much wider/deeper hearth than the existing brick one so we removed and replaced with a slab of honed granite, and the minimum height for breastplate/mantel shelf posed a few design limitations). TV mounted above fireplace to allow for better furniture placement. Not quite the picture I had settled on 2 years ago, but works with the style of updates we have made elsewhere. Thank you for all the advice. before: After:...See MoreHelp with designing my living room (with pics)
Comments (14)In your post you said you were after a provincial look. You could bring in some accent chairs in that style and use throws and cushions in the blue from rug and the red also, to bring together. This is colours as Julie suggested. Visit your local second hand furniture store, they may have furniture pieces you can start with. I find sometimes rooms come together better over time. You will see things that are your style, and this will add to the room. Don't think you have to 'finish' the room straight away. And I agree with other post. Comments (9)I know it's going to be controversial, but hypothetically, if you did move the TV to the opposite wall, maybe you could swing that whole lounge suite around to face it, then set up a lovely round dining table (as suggested above) on the original TV wall. It looks like the TV is in a walkway area of the room - if it was on the other wall you could put a nice blockout roller blind on the window next to the fireplace and make the loungeroom feel more cosy and private. BUT... there's obviously good reasons to keep the TV where it is, just throwing it out there!...See MoreLiving room layout dilemma
Comments (19)I think by moving the unused fireplace , you could make this a tv area or dining area, then have a couch and two chairs, coffee table around the fireplace, it just needs a little thought on placement but it could look a really warm and inviting room. Mixing formal and casual pieces could look great....See More- 8 years ago
