Bathroom Tiles

I am needing some opinions on weather to go with a plush marble upmarket looking bathroom tile for my ensuite, then have a family feel in the main bathroom using artisan black & white feature floor, timber vanity. I love both looks, and finding it hard to decide which design to go with, so I would like to use both. I have 3 bathrooms to design in our new home. I am using marble on the bench top in the kitchen, so I think using it in the ensuite creates cohesion. The stunning black & white artisan design could be used in the other two bathrooms... Any suggestions?

Are you familiar with the maintenance problems that marble has? Used in kitchens and bathrooms, it stains and etches very easily. Imitation marble products have the looks without those problems.

I have used marble in my current bench top, & it has a couple of small chips in it, but otherwise I have had no problems with it. I am looking at different options though for the reasons you have expressed. Thanks for your feedback. ;-)

I have installed pebble tiles in several showersPros - very elegant, gives a sense of space as pebbles are different so no long defining linesCons - difficult to clean, must determine at outset if you want the stones deep in grout (you see lots more grout but the surface is smoother) or not so deep (you see less grout, but the surface is bumpier).Some people recommend epoxy grout, I don't for the simple reason it is much harder to get the grouting even with pebbles than tiles so more time needs to be taken.

Hi creativelychallenged, I'm pretty sure all the tiles are faux-marble from Beaumont Tiles. I've used them in bathrooms and they are cost-effective (from $40sqm un-laid) and look beautiful. Marble and now faux-marble is a classic look so not prone to dating. You may have noticed its recent popularity due to the faux-marble now available as the average homeowner may not have the budget for real marble. People worry about decor 'dating' - think about what you love, what will make you happy to live with - decor doesn't last forever because our own tastes change and decor can suffer from wear and tear. Choose what you LOVE and you can't go wrong :-)

because the water could seep through the joints between the new tiles and sit between the two layers and affect the seal and also raise the height of the floor and affect the slope to the waste outlets..but, why do you want to retile if you're not using the bathroom??...for immediate resale consider bathroom wall to wall bathroom carpet, new wall paint, new vanity, taps and light fittings which should also be cheaper than tiling over the top and, if it's not allowed by the body corporate, it will be a risk to future sales as it should not satisfy a proper building inspection

This article explains your challenge. You need to work out what grout it is, and get the appropriate cleaner. I would be asking why the tiles were not cleaned correctly after installation of grout. Looks like that residue gets into the tile and may be there to stay.

maybe put the marble in the areas where there is less traffic/wear....I think marble looks best when it is used as features/accessories rather than everywhere....if it is used too much in the space, it tends to lose its wow factor a bit...maybe marble in one area of bathroom and then on bathroom bench top....if it matched, and you wanted to still use the black in the main bathroom then perhaps you could do a small feature of marble in it somewhere, so that it ties in with kitchen and ensuite

I love the look of marble ESP as splashback. As far as cohesion is concerned who apart from you would use your ensuite to notice ? Will you have a powder room?
