I just noticed 'more info' and clicked on it. That blank space is a panel which slides across to hide the tv.

Stressful.

Asking myself 'why'....it is a busy, multi-functional space. I thought it would work in a small house or apartment, but like Houzzer above, checked out the 'more info'. This looks a decent sized house...modern minimalist, then this. Don't get it.

I love books, but prefer mine put away where they don't collect dust. I pass on books to other people when I've finished reading them, so I don't collect too many. Having had book shelves in the past... never again. Too dusty.

So that was a trick question, yes? Soothing? Wiggly lines in the rug lead your eyes to straight lines in the floor which run up to lines in every direction and all over the book shelf with the obligatory "black eye" just wierding out all the full spaces with an unappealing emptyish one. The screen when covering the telly is just as odd. Then there's the glass block office wall, which would kill me were I to sit in front of it with a computer screen - I really dislike a glare in my face, and that would be a horror doubling up of screen glare plus wall glare...aargh! What kind of person would possibly say this soothes them?? Their kitchen is soothing, maybe so much so that they needed extra stimulation in this room?

I'd love to do the library Wallin the reno of our old cottage...is there a plan out there somewhere...I have 3.9 meters with a 2.4 height... any suggestions?

I think the rug ties the colours of the books with everything else. The room is big enough to take the bookcase, although I don't particularly like bookcases because they look to 'busy' for me. However, I think this is well done.

Its too busy for me. you could get sliding doors right across the top bookshelf and paint it the wall colour. then tidy the lower bookshelf and put a few ornaments in with the books to make it attractive.

I love having my books on display - ready to grab one as my mood decides. I lkie this one when the TV is covered although I find the grey of the panel a strange colour choice as this is not a colour used elsewhere. And yes, that desk against the light wall would be a disastrous place to be trying to use a computer! So I have mixed opinions on this particular arrangement. But book walls - yes yes yes! They furnish a room, add texture and colour, and of course interest of the academic sort! And marvelous storage and display space! What more could you want!

I also used a full wall bookcase/display shelving on an exterior wall of a very old house which had no insulation, in fact no cavity in the exterior wall, just lined on the inside of the outside! Very cold! I had the shelving built out with room for insulation behind, except on the lowest shelf which was full depth to take those albums and folders that would not fit the narrow shelves above. Excellent result; insulated wall, and purpose-designed shelving to fit my possessions.

I simply do not have the space for all of those books. I am a voracious reader, but I am a library gal. Love the hunt; love turning the pages; love not storing the book. My library system (CLAMS on Cape Cod...clever name?) will keep track of what you have read; your reviews. Kinda fun.

Stressful! I love rooms with library feel however I think this one would be better white especially if the TV stays there. I prefer book shelves to be at the side so I'd move the TV and visual focus to an end wall, it would work better for me and the rug would sit better too I think.

I love that room, Kerrie - for some reason, it makes me think of Alice in Wonderland (and that is a good thing).

The builder & i put a lot of thought into the shelving & what i love is how it looks like its recessed into the wall with the columns between so it looks like it's been built as part of the original house & i think that kind of breaks up the "cluttered" look of books. It's something any chippy could build. We've finally got a plan now for the mantlepiece & surround which is going in very soon.

The only thing I don't enjoy about it is the rug. I find the rest very peaceful in fact. The group of well organized books and the brightly lit windows. It looks like a lovely place to relax. I guess I'm the odd one out.

Maybe that's it - it's too light. Libraries ought to be a bit dim and cloistered, not bright and brash. I don't know. Give me the library with the Alice Through the Looking Glass chairs any day. This one, not so sure.

I love a wall of books, and the more stuffed with books the better, though they have to be orderly. I don't mind the tv being incorporated, but this one seems a bit small for the space. I think the rug is too busy and would have preferred a neutral floor. After looking at this photo for quite a while I decided that I find it stressful mainly because my eye is always drawn back to the study area because it is so bright. I would find this very distracting when watching tv (if it was during the day). There's just a bit too much going on here to make this a soothing space.

Fabulous! The sliding panel distracts because the colour is wrong....hang a great big colourful art work on it!

@Kerrie Langloy7 I do really love your in-built shelving. So clean and neat. And room for lots of books, too!

To all those saying the TV is too small in the picture i chose, i have to agree. Just too much black space around it. I can see why some people might find the rug a bit too busy and distracting. I don't mind it, personally. But I would prefer a persian rug, if it was my choice.

Books stuffed together are quicker to dust than ornaments, or a mixture.

We would say more stressful than relaxing. However, we do like the lay out of the library but feel the pattern of the rug creates a overly busy atmosphere.

Funny, I find it neither relaxing nor stressful.

relaxing. with a touch of anxiety about the all the books i dont have time to read. But it would get me reading more, to see them there, staring back at me.

We took out a very .70's archway (the whole wall) between our lounge and dining area and replaced it with bookshelves & doorway with shelves over the top. It got our books out of boxes & off the floor & has been the envy of many visitors over the years. When we did it, we 'screwed' everything so a future owner could remove some cornice & unscrew the bookcases & have open plan or even put an arch back. We love our books and it's our family who has to live with it - not others....so relaxing.
