Any Kitchen Advice, help needed
Comments (7)Changing the splashback to a lighter colour will definitely brighten up your kitchen. If you decide to stick to the canopy rangehood you can add doors to the open shelving cabinets. Another suggestion is to either change the overhead cabinets to a contrasting colour such as white you can keep the carcasses to be less costly and just change the doors but keep in mind that the side scribes and top scribe will stay dark if you do it this way. Also think about using bright accessories instead of the White you currently have in the open shelves, this will give you an instant change at a low cost...See Moreneed help w/ kitchen layout (advice on sink/oven placement & function)
Comments (22)Our island is 900 depth, 2400 wide, with a sink in the middle (opposite the cooktop), which works well for us. Plenty of prep area either side of the sink (mind you, it's a single undermount sink, about 500mm wide, with no drainboard). If we were going to use the island for actual meals, ours is only deep enough for a person either side of the sink. So, if you're thinking of having the island as a dining area, go to the 1200 depth. Just walk around it to clean it. On the other hand, if the island is going to be for prep, and a place for guests to prop up a glass of wine and chat while you're getting dinner, 900 is fine. Our dishwasher is to the immediate left of the sink, and we have pull out waste bins underneath the sink. We have 1200 mm space from island to the wall side and the range top, and about the same to the other ends. Our fridge, which isn't huge, is in a 900 mm+ cavity which would be big enough for a deeper fridge. It's in relatively the same place your fridge is, and works fine there. Hinges are on the non-kitchen side of the door, so it opens into the kitchen. Cabinets beside it are a bit more in depth, so fridge and cabinets line up nicely. 850 for your fridge seems reasonable to me. I wouldn't put that study where you have it: I think you'll need all of that butler's pantry for butlering type storage. My 5 cents worth based on new house, new experience, absolutely no kids in the equation!...See MoreKitchen Cabinet Door Colour Advice Please
Comments (3)Here are links to 2 older threads that may be useful to you. The common suggestion is steer away from cool or stark whites with this stone. It might be worth seeing how 1/4 strength antique white usa colour looks with Frosty Carina. Or 1/4 or 1/8 strength beige royal?? This colour at full strength is suggested in one of the links. It also is paired with antique white on dulux colour wall. Comments (10)I've been through a very similar situation with a dark, windowless kitchen. In my case, I found that using a warm white for both the cabinets and stone really helped prevent the space from feeling too cold or sterile, plus it tied in better with the rest of the house since the living room had warm undertones too. For the pantry door, I ended up making it match the cabinets so it just sort of disappeared into the layout, honestly makes the whole space look neater and less broken up. If you’re working with local pros, there are some really helpful builders in Hampstead who do great work with kitchens like this and can walk you through color options in person. Sometimes actually seeing the samples in your own lighting makes all the difference....See More- 9 years ago
