what happened to the old column? i think you need to add a corner cabinet (900 on the stove wall and 1050 on the sink wall) with doors hinged across the corner provides 300 + 450 wide doors and better access to the corner for storage of big appliances and to allow more space for the drawers to open, the 1000 fridge space allows an air gap and two 750 wide drawers next to the 900 wide stove, i've kept the 1200 gap between benches and island and added a cabinet (opening toward the sink allows for a 600 wide 450 deep space for a bin) then two 750 wide drawers and the built in microwave making a longer island and extra drawers next to the dishwasher ...in my experience, if you're having custom made cabinets you only need to specify the size of appliances and sink, the general layout of the room and your preferred arrangements and approximate sizes and the cabinet maker should measure the site and custom make the cabinets to suit the space with minor alteration to allow for any obstacles eg like making the pantry cabinets narrower to allow for architraves around the entry door..and it's more comfortable to walk around if the pantry doesn't overlap the architrave or encroach on the doorway

i would prefer not to have a door between pantry and laundry and added the door more for extra light for the windowless laundry but a simple solar skylight will make the laundry bright enough and a floor mounted condensor dryer will avoid the humidity (and depending on upstairs floorplan a laundry shute could be an option?) ... the location of the wall oven shouldn't be a problem (i have a similar arrangement) and keep in mind that the oven door is only opened occasionally standing to the side and the counter (or sink drainer) over the dishwasher is an extra convenient location for a right handed set down space for hot ovenware and, eliminating potential traffic through the laundry, will help make the oven location even better ...but i have to ask the location of any views or north as the windows on the plan seem oddly placed?

Like others that was one of my first thoughts but after considering the info given thought that the stairs worked. I have drawn a floorplan which opens these stairs up to the kitchen which I think helps the kitchen passageway feel bigger and lighter, I will post this shortly. But working with my current layout without room dimensions, the plan originally shows an outdoor kitchen BBQ backing onto the dinning area on the walkway. To make both the kitchen and dining larger and brighter I would add glass sliding doors off both spaces, the BBQ would be moved to the walkway wall to allow for this, your plan already shows sliding doors off the family to the alfresco. By rearranging the family room lounges will allow more space for the kitchen and a longer Island. I would also try to keep the 2800 Pantry if space can be taken from the laundry on the split level for a much needed Powder room to service the kitchen family alfresco. Without knowing what is below the laundry, I can't be sure but if it would allow the space above the WC could be storage opening into the laundry

What about this: move carport down so it is in front of the entry, or the end is in line with din/lounge wall, build into the carport space for new kitchen: two long runs of bench and island. Perhaps back to the west. Roof being held up permitting! then open the kit, din and living (with new raised floor) into one large open area. Then you can afford to pinch some space for more storage in you need it. Personally I would remove the clear stuff off the alfresco and have the north sun stream into the home for FREE warming in winter and plant a deciduous vine to shade cover the windows in summer. Plant more garden! I am in Melb too so I know how well that will work! happy to assist further..... Cheers Margot
