Name the next big trend!
Comments (16)I agree with Catherine. I see more effort put into the design of a study/home office area than ever before. If my clients don't have the extra room to create a working space then we look at how they can incorporate a workspace into their living areas. I'm also finding that a lot of people don't have the time or expense to keep updating their interiors but instead are looking for timeless designs when it comes to furniture and kitchen/bathrooms. A space can be updated with accessories and art. Another trend I have seen is for more people to put more of themselves into their home design. I have seen so many homes that look exactly like showrooms or display houses (which some of them I can say are stunning but they all look the same) - however my Clients have said "well the designer told me this is what is on trend and that this is what homes look like'. And my Clients don't even like the end result! They just go with it because. People want their homes to stand out from their friends and neighbours and this can only be done with using the Clients personality tastefully....See MoreHow and where to put downpipes to keep clean lines
Comments (17)The CCTV solution is nice technological fix but why not avoid the inevitable issue of your box gutter failing and redesign the roof? Without having the plans, elevations and levels I would suggest that falling the roof away from the viewer in your image would allow you to collect the roof water on the (western??) side. There are ways to hide a gutter without hiding it inside your building and I personally think that one or two elegantly detailed downpipes can add to the quality of a building, why hide the obvious need to get water off a roof? Also, I would be very surprised if your architect doesn't already have a solution to this, it is a basic requirement of design....See MoreJoyful House: renovation + building stories?
Comments (3)We are weeks away from breaking ground on a build that has nearly taken a year to get to this point. My best advice is to look very closely at every little design feature that relates to liveability. These include things like where you turn your shower on (nothing worse than spraying yourself with freezing water), one downlight in a bathroom or kitchen (we went from one to 5)and how many power points are in a bedroom. The problem mainly lies in that building companies will not guide you in any way, it's totally up to you some of their designs beggars belief how they think is appropriate. I'm just glad I do it for a living and enjoy the game but I imagine large building companies could be quite intimidating, especially if you have trouble reading a plan. Ask as many people as you can because after pre start, $500 for every variation could get expensive or you could be living with the unliveable....See MorePOLL: Real or render?
Comments (12)Yes, when I looked at the other photos I realised they were real (though heavily photoshopped). The things that tipped me off were: pictures hanging out from the wall at a slight angle - never happens in a digital model; and the rug on the floor with a slight curl up at one point....See MoreMihaly Slocombe
