How do I soundproof / insulate my apartment floor?
Comments (3)Unfortunately sound travels through structure as well as air. In fact sometimes better through structure depending on the frequency. We have used a product called Regupol which is a recycled rubber mat product that has great sound deadening qualities. However in your situation the existing floor boards would need to be removed, a thin sheet of ply laid down and then the Regupol placed on the ply before relaying your existing floor boards. this would give separation from the floor joists and your floor boards. Filling the cavity with an insulation type product or egg creates will not give you the desired affect. Have a look here http://www.regupol.com.au/au/...See MoreHow do I improve the kerb appeal of this apartment block?
Comments (17)I really like this building, and I love the railing... I would not change the railing. Is the railing the same thing as balustrade? (sorry I am not familiar with that term.... if it is, I think that I agree that I would do my best to maintain the character of it when I am trying to meet building code requirements). I think that it is reflective of the period that this house was built. I think that some nice landscaping of the property would add to its street appeal. I would love some hedging, and perhaps some flowers. I would remove the white railings that are next to the parking area (I am not speaking about the staircase railing, which I like.) The railings that are next to parking area, and entry into parking area are not very appealing... some hedges here would definitely add to the appeal. I would also remove all of the straggly looking plants and opt for something slightly more formal. The parking garage next to the building is unattractive. I think that this is much less appealing than the apartment building itself. The area definitely needs to be paved and I would explore the costs of improving this area. I think that while people like car spaces, this whole area detracts from the apartment complex which is actually quite nice. Also, is the paved area that is outside the stairs for visitor parking? I think that could be improved as well. If you do not need visitor parking, I would put a grass area here, and possibly a gate or formal hedging at the boundary of the property. I might even add something for tenants to use. Perhaps a bench or picnic table. I am not certain what the horizontal bar is that is between the windows on the upper floor. Can you have something more decorative there? (perhaps the street name 32 Hill Street (or whatever the street number is) ... written out in a decorative font that is in keeping with the time period of the building. I have seen this on some buildings in Sydney, and it actually looks nice. I think that I might change the red color on the end of the stairs. Is the seemingly paved area outside of the stairs a parking area? In one of the pictures I see a set of blue curtains in the upper window. I would replace this with something like a roman blind, so that all window treatments are the same. (I think that it has more appeal from the outside.) Good Luck!...See MorePOLL: How do you keep your home cool in summer?
Comments (29)Further to some previous comments I’ve made over the past few years on various subject matters ; anyone that would like some further detailed information on the subject on sun control window insulation films as an option to consider for improving both heat loss and heat gains through windows ( also referred too as window tinting and / or glass tinting ) , including glass security /glare control / fade protection and decorative glass treatments etc can check out some articles I had printed in the “ The Owner Builder “ magazine no’s 180 & 181 ( Dec-Feb 2013-2914 editions ) It may help those understand a little better the product for those having various issues, such as this present subject matter on cooling methods , in this comment section . As others have mentioned, one product may not solve all their particular problem/s and quite often more than one product / solution may often be required to obtain a better outcome . I’ve found a lot of problems start initially with overall buildings design , orientation and the amount of glass / windows used and their sizes /design and type / amount of insulation used overall . Having been in the window tinting industry for about 38 years now and covering both domestic and commercial buildings , I’ve noticed how the weather patterns changed to an extent that the solutions/ products that may have been available / used some 30 odd years ago ; now have new and updated products / solutions on offer . One can email me for further advice to clarify some issues . Although I’m a Tasmanian based business, I’ve lived and worked all around Australia and spent over 5-1/2 years in north Qld so do have some experience living in different climates ....See MorePOLL: Apart from cooking, how else do you use the kitchen?
Comments (12)You see, my kitchen isn't just where I whip up delicious meals; it's where the magic happens when friends and family come over. Picture this: it's Friday night, and the gang's all here. We're gathered around the island, sipping on cocktails and catching up on the latest gossip. The kitchen becomes the heart of the party – a place where laughter flows as freely as the drinks. And let me tell you, some of my best memories have been made right here in this kitchen. From impromptu dance parties to deep late-night conversations, it's where bonds are strengthened and good times are had by all. Oh, and speaking of good times, I recently introduced everyone to this amazing pico de gallo recipe. The fresh flavors added an extra kick to our gathering, and now it's become a staple whenever we get together....See MoreTribbletrouble44152k7 Trek
