Flooring in long narrow hallway
Comments (2)I would tend to agree that wide planks across the direction of traffic would't necessarily make it appear wider. It would probably get your eye to focus on the joints versus being taken along to the next space. If you can live with the size of the boards, would it be possible to refinish what is there with a new stain colour? You might be able to tone down the floor a bit and use some art on that long wall to draw you into the space....See MoreNeed help styling a long dark narrow hallway
Comments (2)You can foreshorten the hall with a striped rug. Add bright colors like this and who'll care about how long it is? The unity of the black frames might make for a great gallery grouping. Cut out the shapes of all your pictures in butcher paper and lay them out on the floor to plan a grouping. Then tape the to the wall where you want them to see how they'll feel. If the grouping is the right size, you might mount a floating shelf under them. That will keep the floor clear but will anchor the decor wall....See MoreLong hallway photo gallery
Comments (19)You are on the right track... as you have it laid out at the moment I would agree that either the top or bottom need to line up. Otherwise if you want a less structured look you need to make it more obvious. I like the idea of black and white images... however coloured okay if you can keep the colours balanced....See MoreLong hallway
Comments (7)Hi Jill We often use the ceiling to create interest when having this issue. For example we have created a small bulkhead in one section (eg the entry section) to divide it up with eg a coffer and strip lighting, then as you move into the main hallway the height 'increases' to normal... then in another section we made a square arch with a small step out running down the wall on both sides between some bedrooms and a utility area. In another project we built a short bulkhead that then ran down the side of the wall to create a feature 100mm 'box out' with little recesses for wall lights and ornaments... We have also built small coffers in sections to create interest with a simple wrap around bulkhead. Where possible we have also pushed doorways back 200mm to create a little return in the wall. Then as others have said we decorate with pics etc that are now 'framed' in set areas. Cheers...See Moremeadowdream
