4 Bedrooms and 1 Bathroom, or 3 Bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms (ensuite)?
Comments (15)We're building 4x3.5 Two with ensuite and the others with a jack and Jill. Life has changed unfortunately and now everyone in the household works, kids stay at home longer and ageing parents sometimes move in for care. At the moment we have a 3 x 1 and really the only thing we really want for is a second toilet, which growing up we had because we had the one out the back with the red backs....See MoreIdeas for teen bedroom/s downstairs.
Comments (39)My daughter ran her business from her bedroom until they could afford a 3 bedroom house, their 2 bedder with two boys and no where else to fit an office was a very difficult time which thankfully they all survived. Having your office in your bedroom should be avoided at all cost, as you never leave the office behind as my daughter found out. Your bedroom is where you go to relax , I certainly wouldn't give up my sanctuary for anyone, even my kids. You are there full time so it makes sense. Your house already has enough rooms, except for making a small change to allow for another bedroom albeit small next to the bathroom as per my suggestion, Both of these rooms have space for the boys to have a desk (they don't need a lot of storage being part time) The desk in the living area can be built in to hide an office. This is a low cost solution and won't damage resale value. If down the track you can afford the new deck, try to work out to fit a room underneath as a hang out (media) area for the boys. not sure about WA but rooms like these in some states can have ceiling height at 2100, depends on what name!! you give them. My son is in a similar situation to you, except he now lives in a Studio Apartment in Sydney, so when he has his two kids 50 50 they make do in that space and seem to manage very well....See MoreMake 2 bedrooms into one bedroom with ensuite - what am I able to do?
Comments (10)I've attached the existing plan of the bedroom / study (the study was classed as a bedroom in the selling of the property as opposed to a study) and also the plans from the designer. The large window in bedroom bisects the stud wall of the rework and so I'm not sure if much can be done to make it look natural as if it belongs there hence I am thinking to brick it up and centre it around the toilet position? I will not be touching the lintel at all so structurally I wont affect anything and I am thinking I can tie the bricks to the existing brickwork Many thanks for the comment regarding Laura's treatments. I work away a lot and so her second daughter is moving in as she wants to be close to her. Daughter 1 stays with us and things are fractious between 1&2 and so it's all about creating their own areas. I also think it will add value to the house as neither the bedroom and especially the "study" are very spacious. Also for a relatively big house there is a toilet in the master ensuite and the only other toilet is in the laundry so it's not ideal. A future project might be to swap the laundry and the bathroom around Thanks again for the comments - extremely useful info....!!...See MoreTurning a two bedroom into three
Comments (8)using the available space on the northside only allows for a space the size of a narrow verandah that has to have the entry through the laundry and allow an external door to take the washing out and may be OK for a young child but would not be appreciated by a teenager...my suggestion would be to use the garage for a new master suite (with or without steps down from the hallway (depends on ceiling/roof height) and add a new carport with storage area behind the old roller door...the old master bedroom could be used as bed 2 but long term you might like to consider adding an extra bedroom to the back of the house and use bed 1 for extra living area with sliding doors to a rear deck to access the backyard...See Morern2016
