Living room furniture arrangement - what to do?
Comments (7)As a guide - the bigger the room - the bigger the furniture needs to be ! I have, for example , a pair of 8' ( four seater ) sofas in my lounge and the day I ordered them, three times they asked/checked I really had room for two of them, as they were the biggest sofas in the shop !! My lounge is about 6mx5m with 3m high vaulted ceiling - and the sofas actually look the right size, anything 'standard' would look too small in there !!!...See MoreHelp, help, Decor help! Comments (25)Hi everyone, I'd like to thank you all for your input. Have been a busy spring and summer, but now I'm back and able to focus on the living room. Couple of things have been done/removed since lately: 1. Leather lounge set: I've (luckily) sold the leather lounge set - absolutely great piece with great quality, but not my taste at all. It made a world difference to the living room and even dear hubby, who liked the set, did acknowledge that the difference of less furnitures is great. 2. The rug 3. The white cabinet 4. New curtains with pelmet I love the pelmet although it's old style and yes, the curtains are too short! Will amend this at later stage :) These changes have made a huge impact on the room. Also, I'm also open to change the dining table with chairs for another nice option in an attempt to make this more interesting/cozy/inviting. So, these are the only things that I won't be able to change (we may (note on may) also move house by the end of this year/early next year) # Blinds # Colour of trims and built-in bookcase # Camel back sofa - I'm happy to reupholster it though and change the fabric. This will cost $2000 but I think it's worth it since they are really comfortable and are of good quality. I'd like to integrate the white frame with the gold poster in the design - an idea is to place 3x posters on the biggest wall of the air conditioner. I'm aware that a brown frame may suit the gold poster better, but I'm so tired of the colour brown at this moment. --------- So, I now feel I'm able to adjust as per your suggestions and recommendations much easier now. Appreciate every response and idea (And sorry for the mess of papers on the desk and floor! We're busy professionals and sometimes I have to let my husband have his creative space despite my OCD when it comes to decluttering and keeping it tidy)...See MoreHow should I arrange my kitchen/living/dining space?
Comments (13)you need a large rug underneath your living room furniture to sit ot all on there - not half on / half on. to connect the dining to the kitchen i wouid add a pendant over the kitchen bench with a smaller matching one over the dining table - that will connect the spaces. Definitely a console or buffet with a mirror above it on the wall with whee your dining table is situated. the mirror will reflect the mood lighting of the pendant back into the mirror. Use another rug in a coordinating color - not the same ( as your living) to them tie all the spaces together....See MoreArranging dining room. Can space wizards help please?
Comments (10)Thanks Dreamer. Hubby has a real hatred of bar-height eating. He was emphatic that we would not have stools to eat at the island. It had to be regular seating at table height. We will have a small table in the square space but the space there is quite restricted. It will be just for the two of us. I agree with you about the drawbacks of banquette/bench seating, but as it will generally only be for occasions when our daughter and her family join us for a meal or those rare occasions when we have guests staying over, I think I could live with it. I guess it depends on the size and configuration. It might be able to be set up so that two people sit on the bench and get in from either end, then two sit on the other side and two at the ends, as you have drawn it. It's just a question of how much width is needed, because I don't think 3m is really enough for a regular table and chair arrangement? I'm quite content, though, for the seats on the left and at the ends to be moved there from elsewhere for the meal and then put back afterward. Only the seating on the right needs to be permanent....See More- 8 years ago
