need help choosing tile colour to match new kitchen design

Hi just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on a splashback tile colour that will look good. The tiles will run from the end of the tall cabinet to the end of the kitchen and be approx as high as half way through the windows. Cabinets are antique white, walls dulux shale grey and bench brown/red timber. The appliances are all changing to stainless steel when they arrive. I love the subway tile look but not sure if it will suit. Thinking white might not look good with the antique white cupboards but antique white tiles might be too boring and grey tiles might be too much grey in the room. HELP thanksss

Nothing beats beautiful cabinets for free! The more I thought about your colours, the more I realised warm and cool tones DO exist together in nature. Think granite, a handful of pebbles, etc. Vy has shown some good examples of tiles that would work. Beaumont has some lovely tiles. Here's one I just noticed that certainly would go nicely. Hope you find just the perfect tile for your kitchen. Good luck and pls keep us posted.

K8tles I love the cabinetry you have chosen for your kitchen it is very classic. I think maybe a soft blue or a warm dark grey subway tile could look really lovely with the antique white and wall colour.
By the way the last tile picture above,
are the floor tiles in my ensuite. I am love them!!

Well I know you want to be true to the house & reuse what you can but I would probably go with a more modern style like the stainless wire and timber top rail rather than dowels or timber for the infill. Be mindful of building code for the infill as horizontal is climbable and has to be very close together. There is so much upkeep in timber & if you go with the vertical metal rod look with the timber top plate maybe...? I am not an expert on any era or style though I know you will have a preference in mind & I would go with that. Look at the big picture of how your house will look with a change of paint (are you painting the house?) & for me it was about making the 25 year old house more contemporary. We love it!

Hi Tanya. Very nice colour scheme you have going on there. I think you could easily use one tile in bathrooms and another in hallways, kitchen, etc. as the hues of both appear very similar. Is the bathroom tile also to be used in laundry? You could also have a colourful rug in your kitchen to warm it up if you think the tone of tiles are too cool. Keep us posted what you decide.

We went for a 70 cm induction stove top which works well - bit more space than 60 but doesn't eat up as much bench space. Our space was limited too, and we wanted to maximise both bench tops and storage. I'd go for an under cupboard range hood and us the above space for some more storage - besides it streamlines the look. I personally like a sink and a small one - using the small one for vegetable washing and smaller washing up works well for us. Our space (and the necessity for two corner cupboards) meant that we had to have a small dishwasher - Bosch 45cm wide (several brands make them). It works really well if you have space issues.

I don't profess to be an expert in anything useful. I've two rugs on floor boards and one needs some non slip (avail from Bunnings) and one doesn't. It's quite cheap. I've also seen Martha Stewart add rows of silicon to the bottom of rugs to make them non slip but to me that ruins the rugs.

Have a look at the bevelled edge bronze back mirror tile (pics on houzz) as I think it could set off your timber bench tops well

I do love those brissypete but i think they might be a bit too flashy. Maybe a more metallic than shiny could work

Here are some photos of my ensuite tiles, I am not great at taking photos.
I live in Western Australia and brought the tiles at luxe ceramics in bibra lake.
I am sure they would be in your state.

Hi. I had Antique White cabinets in my last kitchen, and walls were Antique White as well. What I'm noticing with your colours is that you have a warm colour for your cabinets and a cold colour for your walls. To me, they are not naturally complimentary; however, you may be able to marry them by choosing a tile that compliments both warm and cold. I hope that makes sense. It would probably help if you got several sample tiles that you like and take them home and see how they look with the Antique White and grey. Best wishes!

Any colour so long as Not white so no clash with different whites if kitchen cabinets and appliances

thanks everyone. I did probably choose the wrong wall paint but I don't love the all cream colour look and white was out of the question with cream cabinets. We got the kitchen for free so have tried something a bit different and I quite like it with the benches. I will go back to Beaumont's today and get more samples. thanks for your help

Paint should be chosen last, in any room makeover, or build. Paint colours are unlimited.

I'm no help with tiles, but wondered if you could tell me how big the kitchen is? Mainly, length of the back wall and the island? Thanks!

I think it is good to mix up the warm and cool colours. We have warm furniture too so its just the walls that are cool. I even have a beige/stone coloured curtain next to the grey wall and it looks so nice. Because this is an open plan room do you think those type of tiles will be too busy? I always go for plain things but i can see how something like that would look really good! This is one big room with lounge, dining, kitchen and french doors that open to a massive decking. I will post a pic of the whole thing when the final benchtop and tiles go on

Hard for me to say about the level of busy. They are meant to be a focal point. Grab a few samples and position them in your kitchen and see what you think. As long as you are not throwing too many other colours into the shared room space, I think it will look really good. What colour is your lounge? Will you have a rug on floor? If so, what colour/s?

couch is deep red not bright and rug is jute so brown with no pattern

The bevelled edge subway tiles could look real nice with your kitchen. But a colour to match the walls and benchtop would look awesome too. You could get away with a tile that has blue and cream in the same hues as the cabinetary and the walls. That would look really cool!
