What do other Houzzers think of my lounge room colour scheme?
Comments (82)Ok, don't like the dark cushion, don't like the TV in the bedroom. You could go for pendant lighting using the same 'material' as the mirror? If you went for larger beside lamps while you have that mirror there, they would be fighting each other. In the programs I watch, they say to have 'a hero in the room'. In this case the mirror is the hero I think. Also the extra throw cushion for the bed could match one on the chair, so it ties in (or don't have one at all on the bed). If you did need a TV what about having one installed on the wall to the right of the chair,(looking at the photo) and make sure it can swivel out, so when you aren't watching TV in bed it can be against the wall, out of the way. Then you can have a lovely (glass) ornament or two, or a bunch of flowers sitting on it along with your photos. I love how you have your bed dressed, spot on! (without the dark cushion) I absolutely adore the blue shades in the duvet cover and I would draw those out into the room. Love that you have opened up your windows in the lounge. Maybe a throw rug and some colourful (same colours as in the duvet cover on your bed) cushions on the lounge suite as nothing is really popping! There doesn't seem to be any colour except for the flowers and the photos. Colourful paintings on the wall would be lovely too. Maybe the potted plants could be in coloured (as in your duvet cover) pots instead of white. I know you weren't asking about the lounge and if you are happy with it, then that is all that matters. Well done....See MoreBed room make over
Comments (1)Hi Filippa, If your keen to go for a soft yellow, I'd actually advise steering towards a warm light cream colour as it'll give you more scope with colours and you can dress the colour up or down depending upon your accessories. I would remove that corner unit and strip everything out of the room that you can (amazing what not seeing something in a room can do for visual style vs trying to visualize something not being there). Take the measurements of the furniture and work out if you've got enough space for a bigger bed and if you do go for a bigger bed, avoid anything with a frame that comes up at the foot of the bed as it'll close your room in and make it seem tighter than it is. I'd have the ALL of the furniture painted warm white and if you keep your current bed, remove the footboard at the bottom of the bed (as it visually impacts on your room - and if you're anything like me - gives you somewhere other than the wardrobe to hang clothes). Change the handles on your furniture to be in the same style - personally, I'd change them to crystal knobs so that you bring in a feminine bit of bling. If it's possible, I'd remove the shelf at the back of your computer table, hang the monitor on the wall and look into corner floating shelves in that corner - this way the computer table can double as a bedside table for your alarm clock. On the wall above your bed, I'd look into either getting a print or doing your own abstract artwork that ties in soft whites, soft yellows and other pastles and have that in a white frame. Go for bed linen/bedspread/doona cover in white and then bring in your creams and pale yellows with soft cushions on your bed (you could even add texture in the form of sequins, synthetic furs, broderie anglaise and satin if you like - and if you can sew you can do it yourself very cheaply)....See MorePerth Extension/Renovation - 1950's Brick & Tile 3x1
Comments (29)Well, it has been a long (and sometimes painful) process but we are nearly at the end of the extension/renovation. We ended up going with a building designer (Dalecki Design) who made a few changes we really hadn't considered (including moving the existing bathroom) which may have cost slightly more but completely changed and improved the master bedroom space. Without the pool it will be close to the upper end of our original budget but still within what we were hoping for so fairly happy with that. Overall the new living area is amazing and filled with light compared to the old design. Will throw in some photo updates once we have finally converted the front yard from a sand pit and finished off the driveway, garage door and fencing....See MoreHelp me spruce up my bland bedroom, on the cheap!
Comments (58)Hi, use the cat as inspiration because its colours are beautiful - (a black white and tan rug would add a little wow) and its hair will blend in too. Next just add in small touches of a green you like and more of the base colours in rugs, throws, cushions etc. As for furniture if you follow decor trends it is now the thing to NOT have matching furniture sets in the bedroom but the trick is to link everything through colour. I suggest a picture rest shelf (Bunnings) running along the back wall above the bed at eye level. Pictures (and a mirror) and bits and bobs are then on one level, look intentionally placed, keep things tidy and out of reach of little hands and you can mix and swap as seasons and events change. Plants yes, they give colour and life, then a bit of wicker/rattan or other texture in plant bases, a chair or foot stools at the end of the bed. Some nice green glass vases or candle holders etc. etc. Easy changes that allow you to save for when you want to do your big reno. I would spend your big money getting rid of the strip lighting above the bed and adding nice floaty sheer curtains....See MoreVy
