Need help with decorating apartment (art print + decoration)
Hi All!
I've finally added furniture into my rental/holiday/semi-home apartment.
I've looked over many art prints and cannot decide what would best suit my apartment so I'd like to pick your brains on the following:
- Recommendation on artprint/artwork I can use for: Bedroom and living room. I also have a really long narrow hallway of walls. There's also a wall beside my dining table that I can hang something on
- How many art print to hang above the couch or bed?
- A suitable colour scheme (pillows for sofa, prints)I bought grey pillows + a nice copper bowl.
I'm 26 and I quite like the scandi look, simple typography quotes, geometric animal, world map, city name, simple prints but not a big fan of photographs of nature. I really like the MOEBE oak print as well.
I keep going for black and white (I'm being too safe) so any out of the box ideas are welcomed!
p.s. I bought new quilt covers for my bed. I have replaced the triangle pattern sheets with a nice "stone washed" charcoal grey for a more simplicity look.

Comments (17)You might think idea is silly but I ordered this photo for our bedroom - with yours you could actually have 3 large ones (the same) across the bedhead wall. Comments (3)If it's a rental be a bit careful about adding holes to the wall. When hanging pictures of any kind don't go too high - around eye level usually works best. For easily moveable and inexpensive ideas think about: using a wide piece of fabric hung using a piece of dowl at each end to create wall art that you can change out quickly and easily. large seagrass matting to cover the floors. look for décor items that are will pick up the current theme and move with you - places like Tree of Life (if you're in Sydney) offer carved boxes for tables. I believe that a statement artwork above the dining room table would look great, especially one that balances the two interior styles you have working for you. Comments (6)If you have a small powder room, then you don't need art work. Don't just hang art on the wall as you have a blank wall - negative space in a small room is a positive. I would consider a decorative mirror with bevelled edges to provide some visual interest, to make the space seem bigger, and which has a function. Here are a couple of examples from my recently completed Hawthorn project which has some Scandinavian influence. This project is a for busy and modern family home so we really worked on creating calm areas.
Texture is so important to create interest as well as a timeless colour palette. Longevity is also so important as opposed to having to worry about seasonal changes in trends.
- Recommendation on artprint/artwork
Perhaps choose a colour a that can come through in your artwork and bedding for example. Blue and greens are calm colours for bedrooms and great for apartment living.
- How many art print to hang above the couch or bed?
Depending on the artwork it could be one or two side by side.
- A suitable colour scheme (pillows for sofa, prints)
I would suggest to go neutral on the sofa and introduce different textures. You can draw colour from the artwork you choose here.
